Really? Do you know right off who has installed one? I picked up my new 2012 yesterday and can't wait to get a bumper on there.:wings:

Sooooo... did anyone else see the pics of the Tacoma at SEMA? It looks like we have to cut our stock bumper cover to get the ARB bumper to work. Also, the light hoops look huge. Any thoughts guys?

I think that's the way some Hilux bullbars were mounted a few years ago, although now it kinda looks like ARB have a design with a built-in filler. (photo from arb.co.au)

There is a good discussion and a bunch of pics over at Tacoma World.

The upshot is that you do have to cut the orignal bumper - the top part is used as a seam between the ARB and the body (Grille/fenders/lights etc).

That original bumper weighs about five pounds and is worth very little. It's just a aerodynamic shell.

I just installed a 2012 ARB. I'm going out to take pictures today and will show some of the cut OEM piece. The best thing the OEM piece is good for is filling the gap on the ARB, anyway.

Looks great Wil. How was the fitment with the stock bumper? Pain to cut or pretty clean? We have one scheduled for install early next week and I haven't paid much attention to the OEM bumper filler requirements.

Nice looking trucks! Seriously... ARB get your stuff together. It's ridiculous to chop up the stock bumper to fill gaps! Am I the only one thinking this? That's the #1 reason I chose another bumper for my Tacoma.

That piece is really just a shell that weighs about 5lbs and is of little value. There's probably more benefit in using it the way ARB has. I really like how it finishes out the area behind the bumper.

It would probably cost more for ARB to fab and add to the design then to use an OEM piece that has little resale value and would likely sit in a garage after installation until the owner got tired of looking at it and tosses it..

Why? You have a use for the plastic shells? I applaud the clean fit that these trim styles utilize without having to make the bumper more complex. If you have a use for plastic bumper shells, I've got dozens, 4Runner, 100 Series, Tacoma and FJC... Pay for the pallet and loading :D

I thought about buying a cheap aftermarket bumper to cut up and keep my OEM stock bumper in garage for when I trade my truck in.

My point is simply that it's poorly designed. Just look at the Hilux bumper posted earlier in the thread. It was designed to fit the truck. This bumper is sort of modified to work. I love ARB products but I don't blindly support poorly designed products just because a great company produced them. At least it's better than the ARB 2010+ 4runner bumper... http://gitout.com/content.php?221-2...uite-Possibly-the-most-Bulky-Ugly-Bumper-ever!
