It predates the H3 by 7-8 years. It is nearly the size of a H1

As far as who stole what......The FJ was a result of the US government recommending to Toyota to build Jeep like vehicle so they wouldn't have to import real jeeps after WWII when the US was occupying Japan and helping rebuild. The F stands for the motor family the J stands for Jeep. It was at one point called a "Jeep" and Willis Overland threaten legal action over Trademark infringements so Toyota took the “FJ” designation. The 6 lug wheels and the basics of the engine are Chevy all the way. The engine is very close to a Chevy I6 and the wheels were GM truck spec and that explains why they are SAE not Metric.

1950 - The Korean War created demand for a military light utility vehicle, an updated Jeep, on Japan's doorstep. The U.S. put out a request to tender for 100 vehicles - the exact requirement spec is based on Willys. Toyota got this tender.

Toyota's passed GM for #1

I recognize there exists strong opinions here thus I wanted to relay this statement I heard on the news. Toyota has assumed the title of the #1 automobile manufacturer in the world. Surpassing GM. I say good for them and further I say shame on us for allowing intended obsolesence to be the creed instead of building a better product in the first place. Greed has had it's way. Now the competition comes to our American soil, using American labor to build a product evidently superior then our own GM and Ford.
Retrospectively, it appears the axis has risen from the rubble we left them in after WWII to win anyway-automotively.
It seems a very cloudy day indeed when our American Icon the "Ford Pickup" is about to be overcome as well. Evidently, some else has learned to build better mouse traps after we showed them how.
