Here are some photos of one of our back road excursions in pursuit of Moose in north central Wyoming. These pictures were taken in early June, 2010.

We did not overnight in the back country. It was just a day trip from our camp. We camp with a 25' Airstream travel trailer and venture out in the Suburban from there. We are planning to replace the Suburban with a heavy duty pick-up that can handle a pop-up truck camper and still tow the Airstream. That way, we can venture out from our base camp and overnight in the back country in relative comfort.

We are not hunters. We are Moose lovers who travel in pursuit of them twice a year. In the late spring, we go to the Rockies. In the early fall, we go to New Hampshire and Maine.

I'm curious.... I've driven all over Wyoming and as of yet I have seen lots of "back country" but I have yet to come across Wyomings "front country"

Does it even exist? :D

We have traveled Wyoming extensively. We usually spend six weeks a year there. You correct. There is not a lot of "front country" in Wyoming. Possibly, Capitol Avenue in Cheyenne could be considered Wyoming's "front country".

Back country is much more prevalent in Wyoming. Think about this. Wyoming's land mass is 1/3 larger than that of Florida. Yet, Wyoming's state population is less than half of that of the City of Jacksonville. Wyoming is #50 in alphabetical order and also #50 in population.

Wyoming seem like a most unlikely setting to be at the forefront of political change. Wyoming granted women the right to vote in 1869, a full 50 years before most of the other states.

Here are a few pictures of Wyoming's "font country" in downtown Cheyenne.

Nice pictures- what's the furry critter in post #5, I think photo 9.

That critter is a porcupine making his retreat. He is the only one that we have ever seen in the wild.

Here' another shot of him that may be better and shows some of his face.

Great trip and pictures. My wife and I love to go to northern New Hampshire (we stay in Errol, NH) and up to Stratton Maine to see moose. The last three years we agerage seeing 9 in a two day trip. We've seen a few in the Teton Mtns. and Algonquin Park in Canada as well. But the NH and ME trip is only 8 hours away for us and lots of moose.

Thanx for sharing your Moose pictures.

We are going head up to Maine and New Hampshire right after Labor Day. We plan to camp in Lake Francis State Park in New Hampshire. That's in the Connecticut Lakes region in the extreme northern part of the state near Pittsburg, New Hampshire. In Maine, we plan to camp near Presque Isle, which is way up in the northern part of the state.

We have read recently that there have been a number of Moose that were relocated to northeastern New York State in an attempt to reestablish a Moose population in New York. If we have time, we may go over and check that out.

There are moose in the Adirondacks near the Speculator area. Not always a good chance of seeing them though.
We've been through the Pittsburg area up to the Canadian border but have found more between Errol, NH and Rangeley ME. If you are through Errol, stop in @ L.L. Cote and see the grey moose they have in the lobby.
