So much bitterness and hatred going on over this...

Get over yourselves, I saw the final show, and thought it was go good looking package. I did not have the opportunity to see the whole build from start to finish, and I am sure that there were areas that could have been different. You are not Ian, and Ian is not you. He built the rig to his vision of want an Expo rig would be, and you build yours to your vision. There is not rule book that says there is only one way to build a rig to be called an Expo rig, nor does it say anywhere that only certain vehicles can be used as Expo rigs. So shut the hell up about it already.

It is easy to sit here and rip apart what someone else does that has the time, money, and skill that is beyond your own just because your are jealous that they can get parts you want and you cant. Again GET OVER IT!!!!

That all being said, I do think it was a decently built rig, I particularly like the trailer. I would agree that the lift size should have been a little shorter, but again, I did not build it. It looked like they were building a dual purpose rig this time, 3 part wheeler, 1 part Expo, and to me it seemed as if they achieved that. And with that combo, I would not have labeled it exclusively as an Expo rig although it certainly can do the job.

Now that I have said my piece, and stirred the nest, lets have it all you bitter chip carrying folks that think you know it all, tell me how much of an ********** I am and how I am wrong in what I said and think. Go ahead, I am waiting for it.

haha. typical new yorker.

Lets not forget that Ian (most likely) has access to any part in the book that he wants for any vehicle he does on the show. (At least I would only imagine he does)
Does that change your opinion of the truck any? It does mine.

BTW, I liked the final show. It all worked great together.

Ive seen Ian chime in on a few forums and blogs. I'd bet money he is watching this thread.

It would have been interesting to see the reaction of Expo if Ian had picked a Toyota......I think we all know the elephant in the room when it comes to a lot of Expo guys.

The only thing I didn't like about it was leaving the rear 35. To me that is a MAJOR weak link especially with a locker and pulling a trailer. I think they should have (at the very least) picked up a set of JK Rubicon 44s and swapped them under the WJ. That would be a nice swap to see and something their target audience for that rig could easily do. Either that or a set of TJ Rubicon 44s since there would be less fabricating involved.

I will say though that I got some good inspiration to work on my Grand and do things a little differently and a little better than what I saw. I think that was the whole point of the show... to "inspire."

Wasn't the trucks host Casey or something similar? He now hosts on GearZ? I love watching him..idk why but the 2 dudes hosting trucks now just aren't the same. I do enjoy that show sometimes, but its still not the same...idk I think of it as those guys slap stuff together so quickly, maybe the uneducated misses out on alot! While Casey went through everything, but also in a timely manner..and he wasn't finishing builds in 1 show..and it just kept you coming back. I think it make Trucks alot more fun if they kind of slowed down..did things a little slower.
I miss waking up at 13 years old on a Saturday and watching him do his thing! Favorite part of the week for me. I always wanted to see the full build on sergent rock or whatever thats truck name was..he still has it, but I just haven't seen the episodes:( I think he was building it when he was fired or quit? From the show. What happened?

I always liked Extreme when I was younger because well, Jessy was HOT, but because they did some pretty crazy stuff and it was cool learning/seeing it...at 13. Now I'm 20 and I understand everything alot better, and I've grown away from Extreme..There budget Xj build turned out something like 15k to build from what I've been told. Thats not budget for use really. They throw so much money at those rigs and nothing really comes of it..it would be cool if they actually went out and used them..
I wish they did more homebrew stuff to, to give guys at home ideas and to inspire! For example, don't guy buy, or use a aftermarket truss...show guys how to build one..or sleeve the axles tubes so you don't loose ground clearence and such..
I wish the show would change and be more informative & inspiring on true budget style builds, or actually meeting the builds guidelines I guess? Vs building all these cash houses and then storing them without ever using them. Maybe they should auction some off vs letting them sit and give the proceeds to good causes like wildlife foundations, or kids hospitals!
I understand meeting numbers and such, but they can do a gnarly rock crawler for 1 project to please those types of people, and a true budget build the next to please others. I'm sorry to say but I've stopped watching the shows almost completely now because its all for show.

Building a 6.5" GC on 33's and stock axles screams street queen/mall crawler. Whats wrong with a 3" and 31's? Why not stick to the theme more vs blowing money like that? I personally think it'd get more viewers that way..I'd start watching every weekend again!

You are absolutely completely 100% dead wrong. I used to think just like you but I was schooled big time. 4.0L engines, 33 inch tires and 4:88s are the perfect combo. I have an XJ with 4:56 gears and several of my buddies do too. Several of my buddies are also running 4:88s with 33s and guess what... Every single one of them are getting about 2mpg more than those of us with 4:56 gears. It's even more pronounced for those of us pulling trailers. That engine likes to rev more than most people give it credit for. Also, with a trailer and 4:56 gears the transmission is always hunting for a gear. You are either in 4th and its shifting down over every overpass or you are in direct all the time and the engine is screaming. You don't have this issue with 4:88s.

I agree 100% Ryan. I've been running 4.88 / 33's for over 4 years now. 135K+ on the clock. I actually get better mileage than I did with the 4:10's. 2500rpms @ 65mph. Perhaps if I ran 70 - 75 mph I would not get as good a mileage, but my Jeep is not a DD. It's set up for..... yup, EXPO type driving not the freeways. Just my 2 cents....

The former host of Trucks was Stacey David. He left the show to start his own show Gearz on Speed. The story I heard was that he was tired of pimping parts he didn't believe in just because the advertisers wanted their stuff on every episode. I also heard he had some personality conflicts with some of the production end of things. Just one of those things that wasn't working out I guess.

Jessi is still around. She has a new show coming out on Velocity which is basically an all-girl fab-shop :Wow1:

In the grand scheme of things I think they do a good mix of bolt on projects, custom-fab, and fab-mod work. Not everyone has the abilty or time to fab everything from scratch. I for one can't weld and don't have anything to fab with. I pay attention to both Trucks and xtreme for that reason since both give me a lot of good info. I do think they do get out on the trails a lot more now than they did last year. I think (at least for xtereme) it took them a while to reestablish the show after Jessi left.

Anyway, I have met both Ian (from xtereme) and Kevin (current host on Trucks) and both are top-notch guys. If you don't get CRAWL magazine, you should since Ian is a major contributor to that magazine and it is a little more "hardcore" and fabrication oriented than any other 4x4 magazine out there. Not sure what all Kevin has his fingers in right now, but I know he has a slew of "how-to" videos for body work stuff out there.

Preaching to the choir. I run 2" of lift and 31s open/open with stock axles. I would eventually like to bump to 33s, but I love going places on 31s that people think I can't go. :smiley_drive:

You obviously know little about the income level of some of the members of this forum or our level of ability, so do not make assumptions based on your own situation. Oh, and we use proper grammar as well....

That was 12 years ago for me, long before it was cheap or easy to lift a ZJ with a budget boost, fun memories.

And what income level is that?? What are you assuming that my personal income level is?? I am not a rich brat that uses proper grammar, I am not and refuse to be politically correct, so kiss my country butt. FYI, YES, I am new to the Expo world, and very wet behind the ears, I have no problem admitting this.

I do not make assumptions based on my own situation, my post was unopinionated based on reading this whole thread BEFORE I made my post. I made my post in general and did not direct it at anyone in particular. If you have taken it this way, oh well, as said before, get over it.

If you want things to be directed at you, I can do that since I did find a few things you happen to say to be very opinionated and offensive to me, but I left that part out, now you are attacking me telling me to not make assumptions, and use proper grammar, who's the one that sat there and tore apart the build based off of what they would have or have not done.

I will say it again, they build that rig based off their vision of what and expo rig is, their budget, connections, etc. There is no manual that says what qualifies or what has to be included, what vehicle to use.

Oh and BTW, where did I not use "proper grammar?"

Been running this type of set up for eight years. First ZJ was a 5.2 current one is a 4.0. It just * works* for me... And I work it hard!

What in the sam hill are these guys thinking???? Building an EXPO vehicle that isn't WHITE!!!!! The first thing that every good EXPO professional knows is to get a white vehicle(TOYOTA) and it instantly becomes an EXPO vehicle, throw on a roof rack and you can conquer the world!!! I mean really who here thinks a EXPO vehicle should be that puke color of Champagne or whatever that color is??? White is the international color of EXPO vehicles, and when Ian drives that thing in the Kalarahi desert the natives will look in disgust. When he drives it through the jungles of the Amazon he risks life and limb if he comes along a tribe who eat "non white/non Toyota" type explorers. Hopefully we have learned enough by our membership in Expedition Portal and reading the wonderful stories of all the travels to all parts of the world like Moab, Arizona, California, and Colorado that we won't make the same hidious mistakes the gang over at xtreme has made in building a non white EXPO vehicle....idiots!!!! I am shaking the rattle can of white paint as I type to paint my green Jeep Grand Cherokee, I have learned so much on EXPO...thanks...
