K-Wrench for Scepter MFC caps

Got the K-wrench after having a really hard time opening some MFCs with a cheap strap wrench in a driving rain. A better strap wrench would probably work ok, but still nowhere as well as this tool

I'd love to see some pictures of folks using the one-handled version. My thoughts were along the same lines as yours, that more often than not I'd end up using two hands to balance the torque.

I made a couple of one-handled prototypes of my design with handles of various lengths thinking that if I offered a one-handled version I could capture more of the market. After using them I realized that loosening the caps is a two handed job with either wrench. Most people loosen the caps by standing over the jerry can so they can keep it from rotating. With the two-handled version, I feel very "centered" and it feels like one smooth motion.

With the one-handled version, I personally feel awkward in that I am off center when standing over the can, pushing down with my left hand to keep the wrench on the cap and (since I am right-handed) pushing forward to loosen the cap. My right hand never feels right quite right in this motion whether I do it underhand or overhand.

Granted, you might think I am biased in this review but I think you will understand what I mean above and you will understand it even more if you try it both ways as I have. :smiley_drive:

Ever think of making one of these with an MWC tool on the opposite side? Or does anyone know of a similar product for MWCs or both?

I get into water cans more than fuel cans. A double sides tool would be perfect for me.

Are you tightening MWC's beyond hand tight? I've not experienced any leaking with hand tight MWC's nor ran across a MWC that I couldn't open as it was too tight? The MFC has to be fairly snug to prevent weeping, add to that thermal expansion and the lid can be downright stubborn to remove.

I'm in the same boat. Even my small cap water cans usually open by hand since they don't pressurize the way the MFCs do.

Agreed - my experience too. Don't even need to put my man-hands on.

I've been using a strap wrench or a mallet thinking I needed to get the little tabs locked together. Isn't the catch on the tab on the keeper ring designed to go past top dead center? I've never tested them just hand tight. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, right?

I have a bunch of the MWCs and not all of them have the tabs line up well enough to lock. Even then, they stay tight enough to not leak so I never tried to force the tabs together.

I've never tightened the caps on mine with a tool, and they have always been fine. I store them upright, so maybe it's a bigger deal if they are on their side? There have only been a couple of times when the caps were a strain to get back off so I used the Fram filter wrench. I've found that the Fram tool works pretty well to get filters off too :ylsmoke:
