UZJ100 longevity???

I find myself looking at 100 series these days as I want a V8 powered rig to act as a secondary tow rig, and possible replacement for the wife's Rubicon when the lack of quality begins to get to her. She is a dyed in the wool Toyota gal, so even with only 11,000 on the clock she has noticed that the Jeep is NOT a Toyota in build quality.

She used to say how ugly the hundy is next to our 80, but we parked next to an ARB outfitted 100 with suspension, tires and f&r bumpers done last week, and she said it looked great. My main query here is what sort of life can one expect out of the 4.7 V8? I have found a few in our area for $10k or less, which is great as I want to pay cash, but they are at or near 200k miles. Anyone here got that kind of mileage on theirs yet? What sort of issues are cropping up?

Thanks for any input.

I have yet to hear of a 100 "dying". There are a few out there with over 350,000 miles on them that have never had anything done to them other than scheduled maintenance.

My brother sold his 01 with almost 300000 on it. It had armor, lift, and 34s for almost 200k of that. He had a few control arm bushing getting sloppy at the end but that was it. My step dad had it for the first 180k and he is really hard on cars. Hope that helps.

The 4.7L is a stout engine. I never saw one with any issues when I was working at the dealership.

My mother has 23X,XXX miles on her 99 UZJ100. I drove it from Maine to South Carolina and back with no worry. My GX470 has 134k on it and I expect that we will see the same mileage with it.

Btw, to address your other questions...

MPGs (the way your wife liked the 100 you two saw outfitted) will be 10-15.

Issues - Trannys on some 2000s, Manifold exhaust leaks, CVs leak if lifted, cat shields can become loose and rattle, seat belts can become sluggish when retracting, tired hood struts, earlier models have a slightly weaker front diff, squeaky steering wheel in cold conditions, driveline "clunk" if not serviced every 3k miles, "D" indicator light on dash burns out, OEM trailer wiring.

Wow, I can't believe my list was that long. This is really nit-picking (aside from the tranny issue). Still, the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Sounds EXACTLY like my 80 series!

I actually tried to fix the "D" light in it, but after having it on for 2.7 seconds at night, smacked the dash a second time to make it go off again. Too bright and distracting in the eyes for the wet, dark deer infested back roads where I live!

Best most reliably vehicle I've ever owned.....Sold my Sportsmobile to get one and although I loved the SMB for what it was, I'd never truly trust it the way I do my 100.....my fiancee jokes with me all the time saying that I'll be buried in mine.....probably will :sombrero:

Bought it with 88000 miles and didn't even think about it when I did, just had to make sure the T-belt/water-pump was done. I'm pushing 150k of pretty hard miles now and my Drive light is out and the tow harness went, but that's it......can't say that about many rigs out there.
