It is a testament that folks want something that offers adventure possibilities and the freedom top has to be helping with sales.

It is a testament to families (folks) that want adventure possibilities, from my point of view. I am considering getting rid of my gas guzzling heavy weight short range having Commander now that I am the proud owner of a 2012 JKU my forth Jeep.

Speaking as someone who is about three months from signing the papers on a '12 JKU Rubicon (Or '13, whenever their ordering procedures flip to the new year), this does not bode well for me. There goes trying to con the local salesman.

Curious, those who have bought the new 2012s, how low were you guys able to low-ball the dealerships on signing?

Has anyone taken advantage of this program?
Does it result in real savings?

We will be purchasing soon and would certainly consider joining...it's a good cause regardless...

Some sort of lost...
I didn't sign up for that because I think there is a "waiting period" after joining, but that shouldn't be an issue for you. Make sure you check it out and sign up soon if it is going to benefit you. I paid a few hundred over invoice for my 2012 in may. The dealer tried to locate something for me and they had the closest match, and knew I was set on it. I sold my truck privately and picked up the Jeep right after.

Just be aware that if you use that program and have a trade, they will make their money on that end of the deal instead.

And this is why it is unlikely that the US will ever see a diesel JK. Today, Chrysler sells their entire US Wrangler manufacturing capacity. They make an average of $10,000 per copy (vehicle). To retro fit their diesel JK sold in other regions to meet the US EPA regulations, then sell them at an adjusted market price (the premium that the market will bear), their profit would be reduced to $4,000 per copy. Fiat-Chrysler clearly recognizes the US diesel JK market potential, it is just not good business.

Check your facts, they don't have to retro-fit anything, they already have an US EPA passed diesel going into the Grand Cherokee in the US within the year....

Somehow I think that will turn into one more thing in the AEV catalog.

You mean you think that AEV will offer the conversion into the Wrangler?

IMO, a factory Wrangler would be the best, but I'll take an AEV conversion over nothing.

As has been mentioned many times, now the 3.0 passes all the emissions testing, there is nothing stopping Jeep putting it in the Wrangler. It's simply a choice at this point.
They're putting it in the GC, which shows they are not against the idea, which is great.

Remember 2007 and 2008?...Jeep had a great little 3.0 V6 built by Mercedes that passed emissions as well. Do not remember a Wrangler getting that engine.

Sure. I'm not saying it's a guarantee, I'm saying it all helps.
I can think of two factors that have changed drastically since 2007/8, which might help the decision:

1. Gas is much more expensive than it used to be, so efficiency is a big deal nowadays. (and it's not going to get cheaper)
Think about how prominent gas consumption figures are in advertising now, even for the Wrangler.

2. CAFE standards are getting stricter and stricter on efficiency.

I agree, I think they will be forced to come the re-design to get some better EPA numbers.

I'm picturing a turbo or SC for the Pentastar --- maybe not in the JK from the factory, but in other vehicles. That will get retrofitted into JKs.
AEV will offer the diesel.
I'm just guessing but it seems like how they do things.

They're whipping up a nice 2.4L Multi-air turbo too. Who knows what will become of that...

With it being the only "true" SUV left on the road thanks to the Explorer going "crossover", it will continue to do well.... until gas prices go up, again. My buddy was hired in last month in Toledo so Jeep could keep up with demand. Honestly, the only thing that may be it going diesel, but a small one at that.
