HAM test online?

Eham.net has practice exams. I read two books and took tests till I wasn't failing any. It only took me about two months just doing a little every night. Good luck

FCC ham radio exams

Is there a place that I can take my exam online?

No, you will not be able to take your exam online at any time. There must be 3 fully accredited VE's (FCC Volunteer Examiners) present to supervise and score your completed written examination. There are no short-cuts to this process. There are, however, online study programs which you can use, some of which are free of cost. Those free programs do not help you focus on your weaker study points to help you bring those to become strength study areas. I have used both the free program and, in June 2012, switched to a pre-paid, online study program. That program can be accessed at: http://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com. The program owners guarantee to refund your money if you do not pass the examination and... they stand behind that promise. In a 70 hour study period, over a six week period, I passed both the General and Extra Class FCC exams with flying colors. I am now a fully accredited ARRL VE. The best study results occur when the individual studies DAILY in two separate 30 minute sessions. I also used the Gordon West FCC exam study guides along with the online program. I used those study guides for all three FCC ham radio license classes. Received my technician class license 3 years ago and, I'll be 75 this coming December 2012.

Thanks for this post. I signed up on this website last week and have been studying everyday for an hour or so. I thought that I would be able to test through them but came to realize that wouldn't be happening. I was just wondering if there was any way to test on line. Thanks for the help!

What's a good book/source to prepare for the test? I know nothing about HAM.

The Gordon West books are the best that I have found. Radio Shack use to sell them, but you can find them online. Just make sure it is for the current question pool. The date is on the cover.

He explains the answer for each of the question pool. There are (3) levels of written test now. You will start with the Technician level, which will give you all privileges above 30 mhz, aka VHF/UHF.

The written test is kind of like a Driver's test at the DMV. 50 questions from a pool.

Hint on study:
1. Read all of the questions, explainations, and answers.
2. Read all of the questions again and highlight the correct answer.
3. Read through the questions a third time and only read the correct "highlighted" answer.

I would also suggest doing step 1 & 2 in small 30 minute portions. The third step will go pretty fast and the whole process can be done whin a month without killing yourself.

There is a HAM study course in the Apple app store for $3 of $4 bucks that I used on my iPad. Very good app, passed first try.

Thanks for the tips guys, I took a couple of practice tests and scored perfect on the electricity related questions, where I did horribly was the rules/ITU/FCC etc...so I guess I'll have to study when I'm serious about it. For now I find that a CB and a FRS meets my offroading needs just fine.

Currently, no, you cannot test online. The FCC has allowed a couple of "remote" tests in Hawaii where they've allowed the VEs to monitor the tests via webcam to test takers on outlying islands where there was only 1 VE, but don't count on ever being able to do it online. I have to drive 220 miles to take my tech and 250 miles to take my general. We now have enough VEs in my town to test techs and a "nearby" town only 150 miles away has enough VEs to do up to extra so that's where Ill be taking my extra.

There is a "hamtestonline.com", but it is a study guide, not the actual test. I used it to study and it worked very well for me. I took the technician test today and scored 34/35, after maybe 6 hours of study. And I was a total noob to ham a week ago.
