Yeah, the govenor steps in at 115, but if you go bigger whels....
1-2 short shift
2-3 short shift
3-4 wind it out
4-5 short shift
Try letting the truck drive you, and not the other way around... I know, it sounds like i've been eating mushrooms...
All the best operators that seem to be able to get the FG further without breaking something all say the same
albeit in their own words, but still essentially the same statement

Yeah I reckon the 8.25s are the go, I've got my eyes on some hankook z59s and at about $260-$270 each they seem to be a good buy.

Just picked up a brand new 260l fuel tank. 500 x 500 x 1070 with j brackets for 2 cartons of beer was going to hang from chassis and was thinking of making frame on top to support as truck is a tipper. Any thoughts

so the weight would be that of the tank and brackets + (260 x .84)
good J brackets should do the job unless your planning on corrugating the thing to death

My mate said that these come up every so often, so may be able to get a second for the other side and by modifying the filler I should get a bit more clearance under the tanks

Just passing on what I found when going to a bigger fuel tank...

One of the challenges with adding non standard fuel tanks is finding a fuel sender that will work with the OEM fuel gauge in the instrument cluster. If you stick to a 400mm deep tank then that cuts out one of the issues, but the Fuso sender bolt pattern is not a standard SAE fitting, it's slightly bigger (58mm PCD, not the SAE 54mm) which can also be a problem fitting it to another tank. The ohm range on the Fuso sender (at least on a FG84) isn't really standard either, being zero when full and 150 ohms when empty. The sender is also not linear, as it reads 50 ohms at half full, not 75 ohms as you might expect. All a pain in the bum if you want to use the OEM fuel gauge.
Before I had a custom fuel sender made for my tank, I modified the OEM sender by replacing the rod between the sender base and the float, making it work in a 500mm deep tank, which mine is.

The tanks have senders in them so I'll have to check their range. I assume that the senders are not linear to compensate for the shape of the round tank. Is your tank round or square?

You are absolutely correct Shannon; the senders compensate for the tanks being round. Chances are that if your new tank is not off a Fuso the sender will work on an OEM Fuso fuel gauge.
I now have a rectangular tank, but I wanted to use the OEM fuel gauge, so I had a sender custom made to the FUSO specifications. Mine is not linear either, as if it were the fuel gauge would not read half when the tank was half full. The FG84's ECU also reads the ohm reading of the sender to display the low fuel warning light. I know, from testing that I did, that when my light comes on I have 20 litres left in the tank.

I don't know what these tanks are off ill just have to see, don't have an ecu to worry about so may be able to set up a resistor bridge to get it working.

I'm a little excited about a possible 3200k range with 2 tanks.....where could I go.

I'll see the fuel in those tanks as an investment and saves paying $2/l at cadney park.

Pretty safe to say these J brackets aren't going anywhere

Bit confused as to why there are three holes in the top plus sender hole. I thought 1 for pickup 1 for return. Maybe 2 pickups??
