So....I have a friend (and fellow LR deviant) in Manchester that has offered to containerize and ship "the holy grail" and all necessary ancillaries to me here in the states. Beyond- and this is a request- all of the "don't do it for financial reasons" arguments, what are the practical import concerns?

...and I used the term practical concerns...in a LR thread....about diesel conversion....

If this is well trod ground, I apologize but really... you just clicked on a link- it can't be that irritating :)

Thanks Gents!

This has been thoroughly discussed on D-90.com. There is a vast amount of collective experience over there to help inform you.

Just make sure you get at much as possible from the donor truck. Decide, plan and budget for maintenance work that you want to do at the time (hoses, clutch?...) and have those parts come with the engine.

Steam clean everything and do not ship using wooden pallets unless they are properly certified pest free. Better to avoid wood altogether.

never actually had a problem with pallets but if the officer has an attitude this can be a problem and I do know people who have had that problem. There is a stamp that should be on any wood packaging indicating its been fumigated. CBP not USCS anymore.

I would do a check with the Dept of Homeland Security, the EPA, the USDA, the DEA, the FBI, the CIA, and the TSA before I brought anything over...just sayin.

This is a slight over reaction to current events around Defender importing. There is a market for 300s and 200s here in the US. However, what they may be put in, and deemed compliant, needs to be well researched.

Thanks guys.

I would imagine the USCS takes a dim view of the wood packaging?

Negative. Back when I worked for the Belgians we brought a ton of stuff over in wood crating. Was nice because I broke up a couple crates and built my work bench out them.

That said, we contracted with a crating company that knows what its doing. I'd go that route. On the engine, once installed find a local diesel shop and have the injector pump tuned.
