When i bought my Taco last Saturday the dealer said the same thing, as well as that the 4Runner is to be discontinued in the next few years as well...

Any validity to this?

Hopefully, and with the 4Runner replaced by the Prado with a D4D :D

Seriously, globalization of these platforms is coming, and it should be a good thing for us. Hopefully

I'll believe it when I see it. They've said this for the past five years. Hopefully it will bring some type of globalization of platforms. If it does happen. It will be a win win in my book.

"2014 as the last year"

One reason could be that the FJ Cruiser is based on the 4Runner, and the 4Runner design is due for an overhaul in 2015 or 2016. The current 4Runner was redesigned way back in 2009.

Another reason might be that during the first 4 months of 2013, Toyota sold only 3,616 FJ Cruisers in USA. That's about 0.6% of Toyota's sales of 609,000 units of all types so far in 2013. Only the Land Cruiser sells in smaller numbers. Put another way, each of Toyota's dealers sell one FJ Cruiser every two months. Hardly worth the effort.

Interesting data, haven. In my town FJCs are all over the place -- I see many of them a day anytime I'm out and about. I'd have guessed there were a lot more sold than are.

I don't doubt the numbers at all. That's why they have been making less numbers in the Trail Teams Edition year after year. I'm actually happy if it does happen. I will forever keep mine, but I know I will eventually get a 100 series to add to the family as the FJ gets up in years.

I like FJ's. I always have. However, those numbers don't lie. They sold like hotcakes to to a broad market because they were unique, cool, retro hip..whatever, but that's not the case any more. I would venture to say that most people buying them now, are a niche market, and that can't justify Toyota keeping the FJ around.

Maybe they will come out with something equally unique? Soft top diesel version with 4 doors, no blind spot, lockers, etc...
