how rare?

Don't have any numbers for you but I'm 50 and have lived in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and California, and have been into Jeeps since high school. That said, in my lifetime i've seen a total of 3 firsthand. It's certainly not original though, so the modifications detract from the value of the rarity factor.

Rare indeed!
CJ-6 was made for utility, petroleum, railroad, forestry, logging, and military. They were quite popular abroad as well. They had an twenty year run with 1 CJ-6 out of 10 CJ's made during time period if I remember correctly!
My favorite of all the CJ class Jeeps to this day!
But with this critter, I'd be very leery, YJ/TJ roll bar, droopy exhaust, etc. looks like a hackmister artistry for sure!

I wanted to build a CJ-6, not common, but not as rare in SoCal. Fortunately for me, Jeep came out with the LJ Rubicon and saved me the trouble.
I've always thought the LJ seemed more like a CJ-6, than I did the CJ-8. Never cared for the '8 so much with the long rear overhang/crappy departure angle.

I think that's was Jeeps point with the TJ-L, better approach & departure angles than the CJ-8. After owning a YJ as an DD/trail Mule for 16yrs. I love my TJ-L!

Define Rare? I am a huge CJ6 fan, might email that seller since it's only a couple hours drive from here.
"Jeep" (multi owner) sold CJ6 in the states from 55 to 74 or 75 and in other countries till the 80's. US sales were dismal compared to other countries. That said, I have seen several different sales figures over the years for the CJ6, the number that I believe to be most accurate is 65,000 plus or minus including both civilian and non-civilian (m170, CJ6 CJ6a) in the US for those 20 years.
Just to be devils advocate...
65,00 CJ6 sold versus 44,000 LJ (TJ Unlimited) from 04-06. by total production number only, the LJ is rarer.
I think it is more of how many survived rather than being limited production..
