15,000 mile service!!!!

We bought our LR4 with about 25,000 miles we have about 39,000 miles on it currently and are approaching our 15,000 mile service. Oh my God! $625?

Do all of you spend this much on your services? Is there a dependable shop other than a dealer that does these things in Atlanta for cheaper? This just seems too much money for oil filter & change, pollen filter, intake filter, and a fuel additive.

Are you kidding me??? You mean that you didn't know that if you can afford that kind of vehicle, you certainly can afford to pay for the increased cost in maintenance?? There are a few reasons why maintenance on luxury cars are more expensive than on lower-end cars in general. I spent substantially less than this amount on my Wrangler's 30,000 mi checkup.

This is common sense. Either step over to a higher-paying job or trade down to something you can afford. Lesson learned.

Leave the dealer visits for specialty jobs requiring special skills and tools. Anybody can change your oil, and you should be able to, or need to learn how to change your filters if you are going to be part of this forum and interested in overland travel. Dependency on a dealership for routine maintenance is the first chord you should cut.

My professional opinion is that the new vehicles like the LR4 benefit from seeing a dealership for regular maintenance. They will get applicable software updates, and looked over thoroughly for any warranty repairs.

$625 does seem expensive though. What is the itemized breakdown?

1st reply Thanks. So that is how jeep owners view LR owners? With contempt and jealousy. I am not even going to stoop to the level you did with assumptions about your job, financial stability or lack thereof.

To the 2nd reply Thanks, ill look into other options for an oil change and filters. Also, I'm sure I could buy a few Manuals and tools to do these things myself, just not sure if the time will present itself to me. I was unaware of mechanical skills as a prerequisite of posting in this forum or learning about over landing. I am not opposed to learning, obviously learning here will be very entertaining.

If anyone reading this in the Atlanta area has any experience with non dealer shops that do routine maintenance please let me know. If not, well I'm sure more folks will add their $.02 on how I'm too frugal or poor or unskilled to ask such a ridiculous question or be concerned about maintenance cost. LOL

For comparison, here is our pricing on scheduled maintenance:

1 year/15k: No cost
Replace engine oil/filter, replace pollen filter, rotate tires, check for open campaigns/recalls

2 years/30k: $460
Replace engine oil/filter, replace pollen filter, rotate tires, check for open campaigns/recalls

3 years/45k: $660
Replace engine oil/filter, replace pollen filter, rotate tires, check for open campaigns/recalls, replace brake fluid (system is completely flushed)

Comparatively, it is not any more expensive than regular service intervals. If it were $150 for an oil change every 5k, plus a pollen filter replacement and tire rotation at $150 (combined) every 15k, that equals $600 pretty quick...

The breakdown is what I mentioned in OP with maybe with the addition of an intake cleaner. Not much stuff really... The price seemed a little high to me. My late model 750il did not cost me that much.

Wait till you get to the 50K mileage LOL :)

They probably charge 2-3 hrs labor + parts
Most dealers charge for look see "inspections".

See what your owner manual says what should be done at the difference mileage intervals.
They probably charge $100 (each) to drain and fill the diff.

Do you have a record of the previous maint. done? Maybe some of the items have been done before.

Good point. Ill call the dealer I bought it from to see if they have a record. May shed some light on it. Thanks

That is a lot more than my dealer but they are not including the brake fluid as transientmechanic mentioned. I would have no problem with an independent shop who is well known for being experts on Rovers doing a basic maintenance on one of my Rovers, but as far as letting "anyone" do it, I personally would not. My dealer gets about $100 each for oil/filter, the pollen/air filter, roadforce balance and rotate tires, so it's only about 1/2 the price of what yours is quoting if that's all they are doing. Mine is an LR3 and from what I understand the oil changes on the LR4's are more complex, something about having to suck the oil out of the engine rather than just draining - if I'm wrong about that i'm sure someone will jump in and scold me.

I also agree that having the vehicle thoroughly inspected including the software and electronics 2x per year is well worth it over the life of the vehicle, even though it seems a little painful at the time.

Did not know this forum allowed jerks to spout off like this.

Yes, all of the 5.0 V8's are supposed to have the oil sucked out through a built in draw tube versus having it drained. The oil filter is also a cartridge style filter located on top of the engine. The oil itself is a specific blend of Castrol that is expensive and not really "off the shelf". Such is the case with most modern European vehicles (Audi/BMW/Mercedes)
