I think they suck! I've searched and searched for an alternative to it. does anyone know of a way to get rid of them all together so i can use my crossbars without the Xterra rack? Has someone fabricated "pads" that bolt in that i can use towers on.

I'm complicated I know

Thanks.

Damn I've been lurking for a while. First post.

Like the Baja Rack? See if you can find one used I'm not seeing them for X's on their website anymore.
Looks like Calmini has a safari rack for first gen xterras. It would help if you told us what x you had.

Also try Gobi racks

Xoskel for the 2nd gens

I wish Gobi or Baja rack or Xoskel made one for the first gen Frontiers.

Yup sorry! 2nd generation 2011. Co-opski that E-28 is my dream car! Thanks. I've seen both those I wish someone would just make those "tabs" or "pads" or "whatever's" in the Gobi add if I could just get those I could use all my existing yakima stuff.

Maybe I'll call them. I've been looking long enough I may just have to really piss off the wife (its hers) and take it all apart.

Thanks

Call and talk to Gobi directly, or to John at Xoskel ... (Xoskel would be a really good bet, he's a fantastic guy & has been working really hard to bring high quality, affordable aftermarket accessories to the Nissan community ... particularly the 2nd gen trucks).

I'm sure one of them can get you what you need. My Gobi rack is really high quality (I have a Ranger rack on my '08 Xterra), and I found them to be a fantastic company to work with. They did some very slightly custom work on the light tabs to accommodate the specific lights I wanted, then were fantastic to work with getting it mounted (they're local to me, so that may not apply to everyone).

Thanks, that car was the most fun I had on the Alcan hwy twice. I sold it to an enthusiast and bought my truck. I still have a soft spot for eurocars. shhh it was a graymarket brought to the states in 1992 through Seattle to the dry side of Colorado when I picked it up from a friend and BMW dealer mechanic in 2001, lots of documented history with that car.

Let us know about the Gobi feet. It looks like you could put a u-bolt through them to your Yakima rack.

You have a few different options...you can do a full replacement rack, like the Gobi or the Xoskel:

Or you can keep the stock roof rails and replace the crossbars with a drop-in rack (like a DepHep - which, from experience, is a quality product). The drop-in rack is low-profile and will hold 3x the weight that the crossbars can.
