JKJenn's M416 Build

You can remove the flat iron that the taik gate pins to and replace it with angle iron. Yon can also add a strip of angle across the bottom. This gives you a frame for the tail gate to sit in, a place to attach a rubber seal, and your gate can still pin shut just like it does now. How do I know ? I just did this last week on my own trailer. I will get you a picture soon. I will show my latches if you want to have something more secure than pins.

Glad it all worked out and you got the tags now. Are they filling for a reconstructed title, custom fab title, or ?

Thanks, I am not entirely sure...I told her it was to be registered as home-built...but she was totally confused.

Nice work!
The fenders look great too!

Thanks, Mark!

Yes! That sounds great. Pictures would be awesome.

I am going to try to put a battery box together this weekend. I am really torn on a couple of things. I would really like to build a portable box so I can take it in to charge if I am at a hotel or something, but , I have not come up with any great ideas for a box, so I might end up with a HF tongue box and just add solar panels to the set-up next year. I have also gone back and forth on a battery. I truthfully think spending over $200 on a battery is overkill for my current needs. I need to be able to charge batteries for camera, spotlights, laptop, and phone via 12v for now. Later I will add some LED lighting, but that is definitely a next year thing.

I leave for Wyoming, soon, and when I get back I have a lot of personal and business travel coming up, so I probably won't have much of a chance to work on it again until the spring.

Jen, This is what I was talking about. Plug it into your JK 12V rear outlet and you can charge your camera stuff in the JK. If you put a battery on the trailer it can be plugged into it too.

Thanks! I actually have one of those. :) It works OK, but the fan runs a lot. Plus, I should get more mileage out of my batteries running DC power.

I also (forgot) need to power my Shur-flo pump for the camp shower. I went with a small 12v SLA battery to add to the one I have. I think that will work fine for now, until I get the chance to upgrade to a really good AGM. I will not regret having those 2 small 12v when I lose power at home, either. I have used them already when the lights go out. I ordered a reasonably priced MTM shooting case that I am hoping will work for the battery box for this year. It shouldn't take me long to put it all together, thankfully.

In what seems nothing short of a miracle, my PA title arrived in the mail today. I think if you have the data plate with the serial number, that must be the key. Thanks to Highlandercj-7 and Mark Harley for all of your help & advice! I depart Thursday night. :)

I think I need a bigger truck!
Wow, great news. Yeah, the data plate is key. Funny though, my trailer is registered as a "U-Built" but they used the serial number on the data plate, the one installed by DEW Engineering with the CDN Military SN# on it, as my VIN? So if it has a VIN, why would it be a U-Built?? I re insured my XJ yesterday and asked the insurance lady about that. She had no idea... if it has a VIN it is not a U-Built. You can get a Prov of BC assigned VIN, but that is a special category for custom builders etc and it needs an inspection.

When it is time for re-insuring it, I am going to poke-the-bear and ask.

Have a GREAT trip and congrats on passing this hurdle!

Sorry to take so long on the pictures, but here is how I reworked my tailgate. You can see rust already forming (not talking about the inside of course). We've had a lot of rain lately and I desperately need to sand blast and do a good paint job.
