Dog Guard for 2nd Gen. Trooper?

Hey everyone!

It's looking like I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on snagging a rig to start building, and as it stands right now, the Troop is definitely in the lead. Strangely enough, the only sticking point I'm having right now is a somewhat absurd one, but for me and my life, it's a big one. I work with a Service K9, and he travels everywhere with me. 80% of the time, he's in the back of the rig/car when we travel, protected by a divider of sorts.

Unfortunately, despite digging and searching, I can't seem to find anything that Isuzu offered as an OEM option as a dog guard. Everything I come across is an aftermarket generic/universal solution, which I'm not comfortable with. Ideally I'm looking for something in the way of a bolted/fixed gate/grate, like can be had for the Rovers and other marques.

... Anyone know of anything, either OEM or aftermarket, in the way of a fixed option?

Any and all help/suggestions are more than welcomed and genuinely appreciated!!

Thanks in advance! :)

Those type of devices are almost always aftermarket. Several companies that specialize in that.

Oh, I know... That's where the trouble seems to be, haha! I know that WeatherTech and Trav. All have made offerings for certain manufacturers as their "OEM" offering, but I can't seem to find anything from them that isn't a Universal product. Anything I've found that's been badged or branded for the Trooper is just a generic that someone's trying to SEO the hell out of, haha!

I really don't want to have to go custom if that ends up being the direction I move vehicle-wise, but it's kind of a big deal for me/my family, lol. Weird, I know

To my knowledge Isuzu didn't offer such an option. Check out Planetisuzu.com, those guys would know for sure! If you don't weld, check out a local Fab. shop. I'm sure they would work with you on a design that works for you. This may also be your cheapest route..No shipping.

Yeah, I've done a bunch of searching over on The Zoo, as well as on Pirate and some of the other forums. I know Milford, an Aussie company, makes a floor-to-ceiling cargo barrier, but I can't get a line on what the price is; plus, I'm sure it'd be a huge PITA to get sent over State-side :(

I guess I could try to have one fabb'ed up if I go the Trooper route... Just never really thought of that as an option...

I have looked at cargo barriers for the 2nd Gen Troopers and the really nice ones are in Australia and cost around $600.00 + shipping. That was enough to prompt me to build one, cost wise materials were around $30.00 and one day to fab it. Any decent welding shop should be able to fab one for under $200.00. I will post pictures tomorrow and see if this is what you are looking for. Too bad you aren't closer I would be happy to build one but shipping would be a killer. Dave

Check at the pet stores, they have them or can get them.

Or, you might call Romney and ask him how he did it with his station wagon.... :)

Thanks Dave, I'd love to see pictures of your setup!

It's a bummer... Barjo and Milford make a quality option, but I've run into the same snag you did; the cost of shipping puts it into a completely absurd price-point!

This barrier is fab from a cattle panel ($17.00) and 3/4" square tubing ($10.00) I first made a card board pattern to fit the inside of the Trooper and then bent the tubing to fit the pattern and welded the frame. Then used the frame the to mark the panel and cut it out using a cutoff wheel. A couple of things would make this better, one would be if you had access to welded wire mesh like 2"X 2" and if I had a wire feed welder , it's a little tricky using a stick welder on light gage metal. Also a section could be added to the bottom if the seats were folded forward. Dave

I used 6mm X 1 bolts threaded into Nutserts to mount it

That looks fantastic! Definitely looks like a solid setup... I think I'd probably extend it all the way to the floor as well, but I really like the overall look of it! :)

I made a barrier for our 3 dogs in my 60. It's aluminum and stops just below the rear seat top so I can still sleep in the back. I also made window bars on the sliding windows.

It was easy to do and has worked well for many years.
