would you guys be interested in a "Montero Mania in Moab" type of event?

I know some of us live out west within 500 miles of Moab and get there once a year or more, but some of you live further out and have only dreamed of going. So my question is, if there were an event held for Montero owners in Moab would you attend? This would mean paying for the required BLM group permits and other needed paperwork to hold an event in Moab. This would likely be the 2nd or 3rd week of May before it gets hot and crowded, plus the desert flowers will be starting to bloom. Vehicle requirements will be at least a rear locker and 33's, skid plates and sliders, plus a list of safety and recovery gear.

Post up with your thoughts, questions, and/or concerns.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
If we can get Lloyd back in action AGAIN, this sort of thing will go back to being the norm. Lloyd is really awesome at organizing and planning these types of deals (as well as calling everyone and keeping them in line for going). He had been organizing Utah trips forever.

Az Crew will be going to New Mexico to help him fix his motor and i'm sure he'll be on to planning a Utah trip for the Spring

Lloyd Schwartz. Long time Montero owner, fanatic, and forum member since the 90's (vmag.com first then 4x4wire.com). Don't think he's on the ExPo currently.

I was on the trip in the 3rd pic as well as others in Utah (Utah Swell). You can read about some of his events here (my old webpage when yahoo's geocities.com was still an active site)...

Moab 2000 (I had the blue 4 door): http://www.geocities.ws/offroader_ii/Trips_Easter_2000.html

He's also known for his Sierra Challenge trips (again the blue 4 door): http://www.geocities.ws/offroader_ii/Trips_Rubicon_08_01.html

And many of us have done one or more of his AZ trips before (again the blue 4 door): http://www.geocities.ws/offroader_ii/Trips_Arizona_11_99.html

So has he planned anything more recent than 10 years ago?

yes. Every year until a couple of years ago when he started having issues with his rig (he reverted from using a gen I 2 door Montero to a Nissan Xterra). Had major issues with the drivetrain and suspension IIRC.

He was supposed to plan this past years Sierra Challenge but due to lack of funds and a rig he wasn't able to make that trip so it fell on the AZ crew to plan and execute.

Now he has a built Montero courtesy of the AZ crew (http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1241247&an=0&page=0#Post1241247) and they're just now working threw a few remaining newly discovered issues. I expect he will be back on the trail soon enough.

I skipped to the last page to find a discussion on fireworks, but whatever his case I hope it doesn't take him another 2 years to finish it.

I don't think 33's are required though. Some trails, certainly, but not too many. For example, Fins, Hells Revenge, Klondike, Top of the World, all doable in 31's.

I'm thinking more Metal Masher, Steel Bender, and stuff like that. But we could set it up as 2 ability groups to serve both ability levels.

I was just down there over the weekend for Easter Safari. It was busy but it was not too crowded. I took my G-Wagon and me and my two oldest (7 and 9) had a great time. I would like to go back down and do the White Rim Trail and the Lockhart Basin Trail.
