Front Runner Gutter Mount Side Jerry Can Holder

Just concerned with how strong it is and how much stress it will put on the rain gutter.

Interesting idea, but I am not sure it would be portable between vehicles at least not that easily, per their instructions under the "More Info" tab:
Drilling into your vehicle is required.
On the Land Rover Defenders the base of the vehicle's body and the top shell are riveted together along the side of the vehicle. To mount this particular jerry carrier bracket you must drill out 2 of the pop rivets, insert the included bolts in these holes, then secure the bolts via the included nuts from the inside of your Defender.
I wonder if their mounting system is easily adapted to other vehicles too. If not, I would think it wouldn't be secure enough at the bottom and would cause wear/damage to your paint from small vibrations and just normal travel. And I shudder to think what would happen if the bottom got snagged on a limb and bounced back.

Well that makes more sense having it secured at the bottom too. It might work on the 40 depending on length but certainly wouldn't fly on 80.
