Montero SR head unit?

All-Terrain

No Road Required
No cutting of the OEM plug. You plug the harness into that plug then solder the wires to the new deck's plug wires.

Did you get yours through Crutchfield, or elsewhere? If you got it through Crutchfield, then I'll probably get the same adapter harness, which would be great. I really don't want to cut into any stock/factory wiring.

I got my adapter through Crutchfield. It came with the radio I bought. No cutting, no soldering, just plug and play.

Some pics here, keep in mind I have a 2000 with factory amp link

Depending on whether or not your 97 has the factory amp...

Metra 70-7003 w/ amp

Metra 70-7001 w/ out amp

Amazon has both.

Great to see others are dealing with some of the same problems I have with my Monty sound system! I have a 98' with the Infinity 8 speaker system and am a bit confused on whats working and not etc.?? It had a after market deck with only 2 RCA outs. I replaced it with a deck that had 4 RCA outs and from what I can tell the front door and rear speakers are only playing low bass sub woofer type sounds and the dash speakers have a more full range sound. Is that right for the door and back speakers to only be carrying bass and the only speakers with a full range to be the dash? Where is this mysterious amp I've heard about? I've looked everywhere I can think? The cubby under the passenger side back seat appears to be empty?? Is there a way to bypass the amp without a total rewire? Thanks a lot to anyone who has some answers!!

The cubby is under the rear passenger seat, but it's not the one that you open up to find the lift jack or whatever you have stuffed in there. It's just aft of that, on the flat floor board section. You need to peel back the carpet and pad a little bit. There are a number of small head headed fasteners around the perimeter of the cover plate that you need to remove to pull up the lid. DO NOT UNSCREW THE FASTENERS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLATE! Those attach the amp to the plate, you only want to remove the plate, not drop the amp to the bottom of the well.

I have been reading up on the same thing and not finding much.

I found it was easier to rewire directly from the head unit than trying to incorporate the amp, but then I'm no car audio pro. From what I could tell, up front, the amp sends the highs to the door tweeters, the mids to the dash and lows to the doors. The rear 6x9s seemed to be full spectrum.

I ended up removing the tweets and dash speakers completely and rewiring a 3-way in each front door and two 4-ways in the back direct from an aftermarket head unit. Sounds way better than when I first ran the new speakers and head unit through the amp.

Plus if you pull the amp, you now have a top secret storage location.

Love the top secret storage option :) And thanks a ton for the pic nwoods . . . super helpful! Has anyone tried to simply take out the amp and splice some of the wires together to simply bypass it so there is full range to all or most of the speakers. If the rear 6x9's are supposed to be full range then there must be something wrong with the amp because it only gets bass signal right now. I guess I'm just trying to avoid taking the entire interior out in order to run new speaker wires. Thanks

Not trying to be jerk, but did you read post #23? Flip the second row seat up. Flip up the carpet and unscrew the plate under the passenger side. If there is amp you got one, if not you don't.

HTH,

Clem

jeep-N-montero was faster on the draw than me, LOL.
