Lt230 swap into a 92RRC

I'm new to the Range Rover family but last summer I bought a 92RRC SWB. The BW case is tired and the VC is going out. Thinking of doing a LT230 swap. I've got a line on two possible donors. The first is from a 2001 Dico(75k) and a 88 RRC(100k). The guy says he's got all the additional parts to swap them out.

Is one of one of these units a better candidate for my vehicle? He wants $400 for the unit, drive lines, and mounts. Anything else I'm going to need to switch over? Thanks for any info.

the one from the rrc is stronger. but the d2 one gives you a double cardan shaft in the deal.

you want the front drive shaft, the mount, linkage, and output spudshaft from the donor trans.

This is a no brainer. Forget the 2001 Disco and go for the 88 Range Rover. The Rangie is a complete bolt in, but make sure you get the mount that goes from the transfer case to the frame, the front driveshaft and the handbrake parts with the transfer case. The 01 Disco setup won't work without major modifications including swapping the whole front output housing to get diff lock, which is the whole point of the swap, so don't even consider going that route.

Good point about the transmission spud shaft. Oh, and another great thing about the 88 donor is that you can also snag the center console from it and you'll have the correct factory location with boots for the LT230 shifter. Definitely get the console if you can, otherwise you'll have to cut the coin tray out of yours and rig up a boot, much less sano.

$400 seem like a fair price to you guys? I like the idea of the 88 simply bolting in as opposed to making extra mods for the Disco one.

For the mileage, 400 isnt bad. but considering you can put the whole kit together from a junkyard run for less than half that, to each their own.

Disco/rrc cases require the same mod, only difference is the console.

No. The D2 transfer cases from 2001-02 don't have the provision for the diff lock installed in the front output housing. You can install one of those in a RRC, but you wouldn't have diff lock, so why unless you're never going to take it off road? RRC and D1 transfer cases don't require any mods to the case itself. Also, all of the D2 cases, 1999-2004 lack a compatible speed sensor on the case, instead these used the ABS ring to get a speed signal for the speedometer, etc.

I'm in the same boat. Retiring my 95 disco and want to move over the pto winch setup from it to my 90RR GDE. If I read correctly this is a straight bolt in? Or is there other small changes like the handbrake and what not?

is your pto winch a pto driven hydraulic pump or actual pto shaft up to winch ? If the second I'd love to see how the shaft clears the steering box. I sold one off a 130 I was converting to lhd because the pto shaft brackets actually used the holes where a lhd steering box would bolt in. Rather than go nuts with fabricating brackets trying to split the space between the steering box and oil pan, I sold the winch.
