Back from the dead....

Hey everyone,

I've so incredibly busy in the last 10 months. Moved to just north of Seattle WA, got a new job that's keeping me busy 50-60hrs /wk, and had a new baby. All good things, but all things that have taken me away from perusing this board for a while.

I'm actually going to have to sell my Monty soon (going to start a new thread for that), as I need to raise some cash to train my new hunting dog, I hate having to sell it, but he needs the right training, and I don't have the time, or the energy after my long work weeks.

A Wirehaired Pointing Griffon actually... Here are some pics of when he was a little smaller, I tried adding some more recent pics (he's around 70 lbs now) but they were all upside down for some reason...

Hey Jon, long shot, I ended up figuring a way to keep my dog and my truck, no sad country song here :). Anyways, do you still do any local exploring? I've been wanting to get out since I've had my Monty fixed finally.

This will be my next one. Nice pup!

It's a great breed! What made you decide on a griff?

Here's a pic now that he's all grown.

Glad to hear you have the Monty on the road!

I recently took over as the Seattle Area Coordinator for the Northwest Overland Forum. I'm planning a run to Tahuya State Forest for them the weekend of the 24th. Would love to have another Montero on the run. Head on over to the site, register and sign up for the trip if you are free that weekend.

Pheasant hunting, and they are pretty good dogs in general. A couple of people in my neighborhood have them.

They're great for sure, even with kids if you have em. I've taken Drake for pheasant, chukar (planted) and waterfowl. He lives for it. Have you decided on a breeder? Have you found a good trainer also? Or will you be doing most of the training? I know a great breeder, and also a great trainer if you need to find one or the other.

Checked out the site, looks like a lot of fun, gonna try to make it, though probably just for a day trip. Gotta figure out if I'll be bringing the family, or flying solo (just bring the dog) Thanks!

Not ready yet. Our Golden Doodle (black) is 11 1/2 y.o. and acts and energy of a 2 y.o. She is a good dog too, just super gun shy, great nose and excitement for birds but even 1 look at a gun and she runs. Not kidding! She spent 2 nights on the prairie in North Dakota in snow and 20 F when she was 2 running away - my god that was a long Thanksgiving weekend. She will probably be around a couple more years, and my wife doesn't want 2 dogs at once. I've broached the subject multiple times for 8 or 9 years. Will retrieve a tennis ball until you arm falls off. She actually won a retrieving contest at our Sportsmans show several years ago. Pissed off a lot of Lab owners.

Cool - their will be plenty of folks just going for the day. Trip will definitely be family\dog friendly.

I'll pm you my contact info, in case you have questions.

Sounds like a great dog! Too bad she's gun shy, might've made a great hunter :(. I love that she showed up those other dogs, that's awesome :), some people get far too hung up imo on whether a dog is purebred or not, if they have the desire and the skill, nothing else really matters.

I'd love to get another griff myself here in another couple of years, but we also have a couple of smaller older dogs, and the wife said no to more dogs until those two are gone. Which is fine by me.

Agreed. purebred is really a misnomer for any dog breed thou. If you look at the Golden Retriever breed (her papa) it is made up of cross breeding other dogs in the 1850's such as the black wavy-coated retriever and tweed water spaniel. The Standard Poodle (her mama) lineage "German Puddle Dog" was bred as a hunting water retriever in the 15th century.

Really some interesting history in the development of specialized dog breeds.

Here she is
