I wish we could see his bank accounts before, and after GMs generous... donation... to his company.

Honestly, the reason the import trucks cost what they do, is because of the chicken tax. Knock 25% off of the fronty, and the taco for fecks sake...

Not a surprise actually given the midsized truck segment was pushing nearly 12yrs with zero updates or improvements. GM took a pretty big step to spur some much needed new design effort. I drove the Z1 last week the size is good. The lacking Chevy attention to details was very typical though. I look forward to seeing toyota and Nissan's updated design response with the Tacoma and Frontier. The GMC Canyon is said to be much better in terms of attention to detail however they are just showing up at the dealers this week in my area and have not seen any yet.

Neither the Tacoma nor Frontier are subject to Chicken Tax. They are built here.

LOL yep and also why Ford and GM have been dragging their feet and saying NO! Because their midsized rigs are not built here that is till now Colorado/Canyon is being built here finally.

The Ranger was built here, not more than a few miles from my house. The previous Colorado and Canyon were built here, in the same factory the new Colorado and Canyon are still built.

The new midsized trucks are all originally targeting markets outside the US the Ranger I had one great truck would have a chicken tax here however the larger issue is that it would EAT Ford profits from the F150 if they sold the current Ranger here in the US. Not something Ford is willing to risk unless the F150 sales tank and get spanked by new offerings. The truck market is getting very interesting to watch. Dodge diesel 1500 sales seems to be proving that mileage is highly valued, the new Colorado/Canyon in diesel format will be very interesting to watch regarding its sales success given it should do better than the Dodge on mileage.

Nissan clearly is OK fooling with Diesel
Toyota will go into melt down mode before it EVER sells Diesel in the US market primarily due to the Billions its spent convincing US Consumers that HYBRID is the ANSWER. LOL

If Ford offered the current Wildtrek RANGER in 4dr 6spd mt 3.2L diesel format I would be down there ordering one today.

Assembled, not built. Same goes for Subaru, and just about everything else. Ever wonder why none of these trucks over seating ONLY for two? They have to fit those 3rd and 4th passenger seats in there somehow.

I wonder if Nissan will offer the Cummins diesel in their Frontier? I watched the test drive video and the test pilot couldn't get the grin off his face. Hopefully,Nissan will hire a new design team as their trucks are just butt ugly IMO.

The little Cummings 2.8 is an interesting engine. Mercruiser has been selling it in a marine version for several years. I did catch one comment from the Nissan rep that the block and guts were all the stock 2.8 which is fairly well known outside the US. But he said Nissan had some special head magic done and the top of the engine was all specific to Nissan's development ideas being hashed out. My guess is that the Modern redesigned Frontier will share more with the global frontier which was just launched not long ago. Smoother sleeker tad larger with more modern design and probably updated ie increased capacity etc. Though you know how the car game works Titan clearly will be announced before the Frontier and they will milk the announcement for a while before launching another big announcement for the Frontier. So probably what 10-12 months after the Titan gets announced the Frontier will probably surface.

However!!! I think the mid sized market with these new updated designed trucks is going to really surprise the Auto makers. Nissan might put the new Frontier on the fast lane for announcing it.

No, I meant built. The frames, differentials, body stampings, interior components, electrical components, etc are actually manufactured right here in the US. At least in the case of the Tacoma and Frontier.

The Tacoma is 70% North American content.... as in "where the parts are actually manufactured"

I wonder if Diesel engine is really worth it nowadays,as gasoline is so much cheaper everywhere!?
