Axle supply houses

I'm going to be replacing the axle on my Bantam to match the bolt pattern on my toyota and for ease of mind as I don't know what the original axle has been through the past 70 years

I believe that the spring center to spring center is 36" and the hub face to hub face measurement is 49 3/4"

I plan on ordering one that is 51" as the rims I plan on use aren't as deep as the ones on there presently.

Current is 5x5.5...... New will be 6x5.5

Now, where did everyone order their axles from as I see many different options out there?

Southwest wheel
ABC Trailers
Trailerspartdepot
Redneck trailers
Eastern Marine

Now, what i need , in addition to a great price is a place where they will weld on the axle seats as I do not know how to weld nor have easy access to someone who can

Any suggestions is welcome!

IMO - the best bet is to go talk to your local trailer supply business. They'll be able to ask you all the right questions, get you the right axle, & probably be able to point you in the right direction with regards to having someone weld the spring perches on.

Another option would be to simply replace the hubs on your existing axle. If you're unsure about the condition of the axle - talk to the local trailer supply folks & have them take a look at it.

What an adventure! I went to my local trailer supply today to research a new axle ( Franklin Trailers in Berlin, NJ) and was left with a perplexed notion of what it takes to get an axle... The person I dealt with didn't seen to understand that I needed a custom axle as he kept saying that the dexter book only has this or that... I told him that you could order it to size with different hubs, and bolt patterns and all that jazz... He kept saying that he would have to order a stock axle then their in house shop would modify it to my specs at hourly shop rates

300 for the axle
42 ea for the hubs
20 ea for the axle seats

I told him that there were quite a few large online retailers that custom builds dexter axles with everything I needed with shipping included for less than 200 but I wanted to keep business local... He said that was impossible and had to be a mistake.

I laughed and walked out

So now I need recommendations for the best online axle suppliers that you people have used in the past

I used a local shop, Six Robblees, to get a Dexter axle for a trailer project. I also went with the 6 on 5.5 to match the truck and went with a width that would let me use stock tires. Paid quite a bit less than what you've posted. I'd look around a little more and don't get discouraged.

Not sure if they ship or not, they're more of a regional company.

One heads up that I ran into. If you're planning on using Toyota alloy wheels you'll need to check to see if they're hub or lug centric. The trailer hubs I've been able to find are all lug centric, which means you'll need to factor in the width of an adapter if your wheels are hub centric. I wound up needing a narrower axle than originally planned to make room for the adapters. I used the Spidertrax adapter.

I plan on using the stock Tundra steel wheels which I'm confident are lug centric

I bought my custom 3500lb axle from TrailerPartsKing on eBay and the price with shipping was way less than I would have believed. Their prices were so good I went ahead and ordered a bunch of other trailer stuff too (springs, shackles, spring hangers, u-bolt kit, bushings, etc.) Here's their own website DownToEarthTrailers you can reach them at (912) 367-3007 ext 310 for Brandon - his customer service was awesome.
