We have all been there... backing up somewhere new and the lack of rear light makes it nerve-racking. When you're planning your build be sure to think of not only light for the front, but also the rear. This will save you a lot of time and headaches while reversing at night.

For the Flush Mount fans we have a couple options for you!

Not the SR's but we use them all the time! Flush mount them in the rear bumper, works out well.

And a relay???

The things are LED and draw less than 50% of what a standard 35watt bulb draws:snorkel:

I work with/for electrical engineers. I do electrical things safe and correctly or don't do them at all.

Rear facing lights are regulated as is all vehicular lighting. There's a maximum amount of light and a light pattern that is appropriate for street use so that you don't obscure the tail lights and blind/confuse other motorists.
Offroad, what these lights are intended for, is another story. Relay them with the reverse light as a trip, switch them up front so that they don't come on all the time.

I'm sure that Rigid & Trucklite agree.

Yes, that's how the Rigid backup light kit is set up. The supplied harness, if installed correctly, supports always off, on with reverse, always on via three way switch.

Switch in the cab and relay in the engine are best ... keep the load on the in-cab switch as low as possible , even with LED's. A relay also allows you to run very thin, easily workable, wires to your switch in the cab since your switch is only used to activate the relay which powers the circuit ....

Im sure its because so many vehicle are burning to the ground to to inadequate wiring.

I mean, its not like the MFG build them to work as intended.

Seriously. There is NO reason to run such a reverse lamp on a relay. NONE.

The factory wiring is already done CORRECTLY.

It is sized for the intended load (which happens to be much HIGHER than the led in question), and is fused.

Placing such a light on a relay is redundant and and is NOT correct.

IDASHO, you are soooooooooo beating a dead horse here. He should really change his name to MrKnowitALL. Rigid, I have only seen the cube flushmounts. do you have any light shots from these looking back from the vehicle? I like the look of these better, and I would run them in my bumper for sure.

I know that you hold a generally contemptuous regard for science and those of us with educations, but really now. Leash yourself. You're the only person on this forum that I've ever used the "ignore" button on ---- and I'll punish myself mercilessly for switching it off here.

There are general protocols for lighting that are regarded as best practices. I follow them. You don't have to.
Companies that make lights probably prefer that customers do though.

KojackJKU, I don't see any flaws in Hildweller's recommendations for a relay and a kill switch. Why the animosity?

It was not with the relay and switch comment. I agree 100 percent on that front. its the use only off road comment. REALLY? they are effing backup lights. What aer you going to do blind the dog in your back garden? As I said before, give it a rest!

There are a lot of very "smart" people who make a lot of very dumb decisions every day brother. remember that.
