The Switch

4x4wire is down again tonight. The software and system was old when the Mits crowd first migrated there ages ago. I keep posting there, but we really need to get everyone to move. I we ready to get everyone moved over? It will take some effort, but we need to get off that horrible set up.

So I kind of agree with you. The forums are great for its historical value. There is a lot of stuff that I prefer to look up there. The members there are amazing resources. Its a pain to deal with when it's down like now. A mass migration may work but I think those members are slowly coming over anyway.

No question, the members on 4wire are great, but the threads are nearly useless because all the valuable ones had their photos wiped out.

Yeah, a lot of those threads have lost the photos. You are right. I'm not sure that is a 4x4wire thing though. Fast forwarda few years from now on this forum and I'm almost positive that we will see the same here.

I've managed to keep 100% of all the photos I've ever posted over the past 12 years. I wish I could edit posts from years ago but the wire seems to lockout the post after a few months.

I suppose what I'm saying is even having the photos doesn't really mean much if you can edit your own posts.

We made the first major move from 4x4NOW the first time, and it was painful, it took key posters to just stop posting. To summarize the Wire problems;

1. Outdated and fragile software
2. Outtages
3. Software that barely functions
4. Ads
5. Hard to post photos
6. Photos have been lost and no photo hosting
7. Search function has NEVER EVER worked
8. For vast periods of time pages load so slow its enough to drive you nuts.(maybe the reason photos are no longer linked?)
9. Host is unwilling to upgrade software or servers even with support offered

I am sure I am missing more......

Agreed, I use FB, this and other sites for daily Montero fix. Mainly use 4x4wire site for research.

Even then, I don't go to the site, just crawl the site via Google "site:4x4wire.com Montero ______"

Someone that has tons of time should start a Faq copy and pasting from over there. Super hard to find anything especially browsing from iPhone/iPad.

Or everyone takes a little bit from there and brings it here like Jay Ayala and I have been doing (Mostly Jay). I'm strapped for time but bringing something every now and then is cool.
