Advice on buying a Montero

Thanks for all the info. I did not buy the one that I originally asked about with 158000 miles. It was pretty rusty, did not sound good and was an LS.
However I did find a 97 SR with 333000 miles that runs good and all the 4 wheel drive stuff works as it should.
Now to clean it up and decide where I want to go with the mods.
One of the things I was thinking about was replacing the seats with something from a newer pickup. Anybody done that?

No, I didn't pay too much for it, but it runs good. No strange noises, no smoke, no smell of burned oil. The PO just did timing belt, water pump, new radiator, new alt.
Not going to do to much in the way of mods. It's mainly going to be my hunting and camping truck.

unless he replaced the valve guide seals (he very well couldve), its gonna smoke after a long idle...let it sit for 10 minutes, then gun it
honestly not that it matters if it does. Its gonna be an awesome hunting and camping truck!
