what brakes are you guys using?

Time to do my brakes on my '97 Tacoma 4WD. What brake pads, rotors, shoes and drums do you guys recommend? I'm tired of getting the cheap stuff at my local auto parts store.

I have a T100 with stock brakes, which aren't the world's best (a Tundra rotor/caliper upgrade is a popular mod, but I haven't springs for that). Anyway, I just installed Akebono ACT pads and they are noticeably better than whatever was in there before. Cheap and quick shipment from Amazon.

I'll look into those. Might consider those for now. Don't really want to spend $200, on brakes, yet. Need to put funds into other repairs, also.
Looked into the Tundra conversion and there are others as well, but I have 15" wheels and would need to get 16"s which I don't really want to do.

The EBC Greenstuff pads are awesome and confidence inspiring. I'm on my third set in a little over a year though! They just wear out too fast so I'm doing the tundra upgrade next time around with OEM pads

The tundra brake conversion is SUPER easy if you have the right wheels for it. Definitely worth the money in my opinion if your replacing everything.

Just completed the tundra conversion for my third gen 4Runner. (Anybody need stock rotors in great shape?)

2005 Toyota Tundra rotors
2005 Toyota Tundra pads
2005 brake pad shim kit
2005 eclipse reman calipers from Napa. ($350 a side from Toyota was too rich for my blood)
Castrol dot 3 and dot 4 brake fluid (good to 400 degrees)

All in it was around $400 with the discounted camelback Toyota prices.

If you are keeping your existing calipers, I would just order OEM pads from camelback Toyota.

they are the stock rotors? if so how much do you want for them? I was thinking of getting OEM rotors and pads for this time around.

Now, I'm kind of reconsidering doing the Tundra conversion in the future. Just want to stick with 15" wheels, because more sidewall on the tire the better. so, I have heard.

Show up at my place in central Washington and the're yours for free. Shipping them anywhere would probably be more than the're worth.

If you are in a taco with 15 inch wheels, I don't think the tundra upgrade is worth the price/hassle for you, unless you tow, or have a camper.

The 4Runner tosses 1000 lbs of **** on a taco frame, and uses the same front brakes, and after upsizing your tires to 33's the brakes just don't have the stopping power anymore.

Basically, my tundra upgrade was to get my rig to be able to stop like a stock unladen tacoma. If you don't have those worries, no need to upgrade.... Unless you have a camper, or tow a trailer.

Thanks for the info. I do have a trailer, but never had a problem stopping with it, because it has trailer brakes. I plan on building an off road trailer and that will have brakes as well.
