Heat and AC solution for pet?

I just wanted to see if there are any good solutions out there for leaving a pet in a car/rig. I'm in the process of finding a new van, and i want to see if theres anyway to heat or cool it while im away for a little while, say biking or skiing for the day. I'm planning to turn whatever I get into a westfalia style camper, and want to factor this into the cost. Any ways to heat and AC running of battery power, maybe run a generator? i havent found any real solutions out there.

There are plenty of solutions if you look, tons of info on this forum and online about turning vans into campers and adequate power sources.

Have a look at the police k9 vehicle climate control market for some ideas. If nothing else you'll get some ideas for remote monitoring/warning systems. Lots of options available, if not for outright purchase then maybe some things you can emulate for cheaper.

Not trying to start a flame war, but it seems to me that if you're going to leave your dog in the rig all day, why even bring him/her? Would you leave a kid in the rig all day? Doesn't your dog deserve the same consideration?

A dog (or any companion animal) isn't an accessory or a mod that you add to the rig and turn on and off to suit your schedule.

OK - rant over.

It's a cat, regardless of cat or dog I doubt he cares if he has to chill in a van by himself every now and then, he may not have the luxury of a roomy house, but I'm not sure if that concept even occurs to pets. People stick their pets in kennels for an extended period of time, a van is a huge step up.
Plus it's not like I'll be gone all the time, but if I decide to spend a half day riding every now and then i want to make sure the temperature will be ok.

Yeah, cats are much cooler with being left alone, dogs are pack animals and not so good with being alone. In your initial post you wrote "... skiing for the day". Assumed you'd be gone a full day. Just be sure the system is reliable so you don't roast or freeze the little guy while you're gone.
