Hey Guys

I am almost done with my build.

The last piece of the project is the 46 gallon tank from Transferflow: https://www.transferflow.com/shop/product/0800114225?p=1&c=10&s=p-

Has anyone in CALIFORNIA installed one of these?

The website and calling them on the phone says not for sale in CA.

I can get around that, but i had a question...

Is this not for sale in CA for liability reasons, or will it not pass the bi annual smog test??

Anyone in CA install one and able to get it smogged?

Anyone here anywhere install it themselves? Difficulty?

Thanks
Kevin

It does not have a Carb Co which is why it is not available for California. see http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/amquery.php looks like it needs to show that it does not increase vehicle emissions for it to be granted an executive order to allow it to be sold in California. You could purchase it and hope it is not something the Smog station would really look closely at, but I doubt they would even notice most likely.

Thanks. The Smog stations here in town are run by some shady folks that don't look close at much other than the readings from the exhaust pipe.

My question I guess is if it actually effects the emissions. That would be the main concern for me.

Thanks

I doubt that it would affect tailpipe emissions at all. I guess it could theoretically affect evaporative emissions. I would just make sure that it comes with all of the fittings to plumb in like your old one did, and maybe paint it black before install.

As stated the smog test centers will not care for type or size of gas tank you have.
However, you might get a "Not ready" on your evap system after you change to a bigger fuel tank.
You might also get a DTC code....... might being the key word...
The smog centers will allow you to have a "not ready" evap system provided there are no pending codes (DTCs).....

See here..
Page two...

My experience was that after doing an engine conversion on my '85 LC, and having a 46 fuel tank fabricated... my evap system never went into ready mode...No DTCs
I stopped by the local REFEREE and asked about this prior to taking my rig to get my BAR sticker...this is was I was told....
They saw and asked if my 46 gal tank was custom made, and that was that.....
However, they did say this was probably the reason why my evaporative system was not going into ready mode.... something to do with the algorithms in the ECU....
That's when I learned about this new law referenced on the link provided...
