Battery chargers and battery sizes

It seems like the build is going to nickel and dime me ;) When I was doing my original design I forgot to account for a battery charger.... now that I am building it and getting wiring in place amongst other pieces I realized I forgot to take a charger into account..... oh yeah, I need to add that this trailer will be pluggable into 110 from time to time and the fridge is 2 way - propane/110.

I started looking around and found this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GANZZ6/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1JV6XN12ZQO1J

Seems reasonably priced and they use all the right words to make me feel semi good with it killing the battery.

Now the next dilemma is the battery size - the trailer is a live - in trailer and in bad weather we might be staying inside. This means a 2.5 year old will need to be entertained which means lights and so on... I will have LED lighting inside (box is 6W 10L 6H). Appart from LED lighting the battery will be used to charge our phones/tables/speakers and it will be used to power the electrical brakes in case the trailer rips away from the jeep.

Thats a pretty serious charger. I put a 1.5amp charger and a good sized marine battery in my teardrop. All I have is an engel, LED lights, fan and various USB charging points. On our last 3 night trip the battery never dropped below 12 volts so even If I had hookups the charger would not of really been needed.

These have excellent ratings. I have the 20 amp x 2 model. water resistant as well. I have not hooked mine up yet but it will be for 2 deep cycle marine batteries, in the back of my truck for our 82 qt & 50 qt ARB's.

I caught mine on sale, had $20 coupon, used my Mil/LE discount. Ended up like $82.00

97kurt --what type & brand of battery do you have/use ?

I've used the Iota-45 system for going on 6 years...no problem.

I guess I'm unclear if the tv will be 12v...but that should give you plenty of juice to run what need...plus keep your battery topped off.

I'd consider a group 31 or so.

You're emergency break away for the trailer brakes should be in a separate battery, which gets tied into your trailer brake power from the truck...but if I remember correctly it also charged from the battery.

C-tek makes great chargers/tenders as well. I have been happy with mine. I think I went with the 7002 model.

Damn you;) now you threw a wrench into my plans and made me think.... if I go with ctek then I just wire up the trailer for 110 and plug the ctek in on as needed basis (or rather have it there almost all the time) and can still use it for other applications when needed....
For 110 i would need only 2 or 3 outlets...
- fridge
- charger
- other stuff

In general I don't see being plugged into shore power too often....

The Prorgressive Dynamics charge wizard charging profile is optimized for RVs and boats that are pretty much always plugged into shore power.

In other words, not very aggressive and with a low float voltage so as not to burn out batteries during long term storage on shore power.

Decent unit for that sort of situation but I wouldn't buy one myself. I'd prefer something punchier.

Ctek is great stuff if you can figure out the Swiss alien logic in the instruction manual.

Iota with IQ/4 brain is good too.
