Whose 4x4 conversion is this?

Was the Chassis previously for sale on CL with another van? I feel like I've seen that before. Cant tell you who made the 4x4 conversion but that's a unique looking E250. Good luck with the project!

SDD, yes that chassis was in Craigslist in San Diego for 5 weeks before I snatched it 2 weeks ago.

Indeed the van/RV is very unique although it was supposed to be a production RV by BornFree back in the 90s. Any searches in the internet about this 19ft RV returned empty :-(; anyway the inside is really clean and the solid oak cabinetry and upholstery is first class to say the least. It's an ideal 2-person travel vehicle.

MG, thanks for the ID of the conversion. I will then be able to say I have a Quigley :). The only concern I have when I swap it in is getting the caster right. Of course I could just elongate the mounting holes in the frame to allow for some adjustment.

Are you sure its not a 4R100? Which would be a good thing.......

Not sure, may well be a 4R100. But I thought E4OD and 4R100 are one and the same, being those in later model years were called 4R100. If you don't mind, please explain the difference(s). I looked at the pan and it looks/shaped like that in my 1990 E250, when 4R100s were still unheard of.

If you didn't already know, if you call Quigley they might be able to give you some info regarding the original build.
Although with no identification on the rig that might make it a bit harder.
As I understand they keep good records and they are good about sharing info.
Good luck with the project and keep us updated.

Edit, so they cut the old cast control arms and welded the outboard portion to the top of the axle. That is the spring/swaybar mount....

Yes, they did. It's going to be pretty much a bolt-on swap from the E350 to my older E250 (the axles, suspension brackets, springs, 4-link arms, swaybars, cross members, etc.), although they tack welded some of the bolted brackets to the frame in a couple places - which will be easy to grind.

Edit, and it's the welded part/bracket on top of the axle tube that provides the needed lift/clearance.

VIN # is stamped on the frame, usually on top of rail behind the 2nd body mount back from the front, passenger side.

Thanks. I'll check the VIN# and call Quigley. I'd like to know also if the BW1356 was converted to manual operation (the motor has been removed, i.e. missing). I would not want a stick sticking out of the RV floor so I'm sure I will devise some way to remotely shift the BW1356, either electronically (stock push-button) or otherwise (pull-cables).

Edit: By the way, as most probably already know, the noticeable difference of the 2000 E350 vs. 1990 E250 is that in the E350 the frame rail is taller (about 7.5 inches vs. 6" in the E250) but only from the trans cross-member to the rear leaf springs front mounts; the rail deepens at the bottom. The rest of the frame rails are 6" tall just like the E250's all the way. Of course, there's also differences in the front coil springs and the rear leaf springs. Front sway bars are of the same diameter. The E350 has no rear sway bar; the E250 has one.

Can we play the same guessing game with this one now?
Edit, two things, it's not my pic/phone, and two the first time I saw the pic I thought the shock was inside the spring (coil over) but it's not...
