I started out my overland adventure vehicle search with a Jeep in mind. Once I test drove a few jk's the dealership I was shopping with show me an F150 . I test drove it and took it home.
It started off as stock as could be with 72k on the odometer. I started looking around at different options for the truck. I decided (convenienced the wife) this had to be able to haul all the honey do stuff from the hardware store and kids toys on too of being a capable overland rig.
This led me to start building what I had in mined and this is where I'm at as of today.
Stay tuned for more than you bargaind for.

I started of with looking for parts. Being on a none existant budget. I intended to get icon suspension before I realized what my monthly payment is for the truck. So I went the cheep route and did spacers up front and left the back alone. Then in a search for wheels and tires I found the 1st gen raptor take offs for cheeper than the wheels u was going to order. Next I found tires.

Next thing o stated looking in to was a rack system. I knew we were not going to get an rtt. The four of us are large people me being 6' 5 the wife and kids well over five foot. Then factor in the dogs. So I was looking at putting a storage box on the rack but didn't want the box sticking way up in the air.
I couldn't find wat I was looking for and being a fabricator as a hobby I decided to build one.
After that I started my front bumper. I have a desert prerunner and now I'm slowing down to enjoy the view I usually fly buy. I like the plate bumpers everyone is running lately but didn't want to do all the grinding or welding. So I put together this.

Next on my list to do is an awning and drawer system in the bed . I think that will be made out of aluminum. Not sure yet I still don't have a budget.

In my opinion, a pickup is the best vehicle for long distance travel and exploring. You can carry a bunch of gear and supplies. If I were to buy a new(er) truck, it would be an F150.

nice set up. I have an f150 as well. '14 Crew cab fx4. 90k miles and no sign of slowing down. Comes in handy to be able to make stuff on your own. I like the rack. Me personally Id put a flat rack onto of it and use the drop down part to hold my kayak and fly rods and other long goodies.

Thanks JohninDetroit. I did want the box way above the cab didn't look good. I plan on mounting my road tube to the angled tubes on the inside. I would love a couple of yaks but the banker won't separate from the cash. Have to stick with the float tube for now.
The best part of making stuff is you get what you have in visioned the first time. And WAY WAY cheeper than off the shelf stuff .

Can you show me pics of how the ARB mounts to the rack?
I've been thinking of an awning for my Fiddy.
I have two cross bars on my topper and was going to put a length wise piece across of needed but not sure how those mount at all.

I just used some muffler clamps that fit the tubing then drilled flat plate to fit the muffler clamps and the awning. If I remember tonight I'll get some pictures for yah.

Love it - no nonsense, stock'ish build. (y)

Thanks. The only thing I'm going to change on the suspension is the rear shocks ,front coil overs and build an upper arm. I want to get a better ride than it has right now. Next on the list is to do an overnight local trip and see if the wife even likes being in a tent. She's a motorhome type of girl lol.
