Gen 1 A/C

Morning all, I have a question about my A/C. It turns on, gets cold, idle bumps up when compressor turns on but the compressor does not turn off. The only way for me to turn off the A/C is to turn off the engine. I can hear (I think) the expansion valve under the dash when shutting off the engine, It sounds like a blow off sound. Any ideas where to start?

Ok, thx. I down loaded the manual but the A/C section is missing. I only have the heater section, can you tell me where the relay is located.

When you restart engine, is the a/c compressor running?
I know the compressor has a clutch.....maybe the clutch has failed in the on position?

No, it shuts off when the engine shuts off. If the system is off and I than turn the A/C system you can hear the clutch engage.

first thing is to check for electrical current at the compressor after disengaging the unit.
no power?
clutch is sticking, which is what I suspect.

power still ?
u have a voltage current problem

the torque of the engine is holding the clutchurch in the engaged position untill u release the torque by shutting down the engine.
just a guess but I'm probably accurate in that.

Resolved, the PO did some goofy wiring, and grounded out the condenser relay to run when blower switch is on. The system works great so far. Thanks for the replys.

Hey MontyNV,
Great to hear you have your GEN1 AC working. What RPM does the idle go up to when it is running?
