A full walk-around tour of our global overlanding vehicle.

We waited for a year of hard use to provide this tour so that we could share how all of this equipment has held up. Really hope you enjoy this tour. I also talk about the philosophy behind our build for driving all around the world.

Happy to field any questions. ~ Eric

WHY do so many folks "Pimping" their product/lifestyle always have to say what THEY have is the "Ultimate"???
Our use of the world ultimate is literal. For us it is the ultimate. It is the final one. The one we are driving around the world. Can't really go down to a local 4x4 shop in many of the countries we are visiting. Can't really order off Amazon either when this is a lifestyle that you live every day and move every day or two. Don't plan on having that vehicle back in the USA for 10-15 years of constant full-time overland. So I think the word fits. As for how others use the term? You'd have to ask them. ? ~ Eric

I enjoyed the walk around. It’s nice to see what folks have built and what works. It’s kept me from making many costly mistakes in my own camper jku build. Happy travels Eric!
So glad it has helped you out Shays. Always happy to be a resource if any questions come up. God knows we've learned so much about this lifestyle through our travels, and if we can help just one person it makes it all worth it. Happy adventures yourself! ~ Eric

I may have missed it as I skipped around in the video, but what is the total vehicle weight with full tanks of fuel and water?

Overall, I really like the variety of Gladiator builds I see and appreciate seeing this one set up for family camping.

Can't believe it is almost time to ship our Jeep to South America!

Today was day 2 of getting DAUNTLESS ready for the container shipping from Panama to Colombia.

Rainy season through Central America was no joke. We removed everything from inside the rig cleaned out all of the floors, cabinets and compartments. Did a complete inventory and put it all back.

We got rid of about a half trash bags worth of great gear and equipment to give away to other overlanders that we haven't used in the past year since we left the USA.
It took us two days to get the job fully done. But we're feeling good about it. The next stage of our overland journey around the world is South America and we think it is going to take us 2-3 years to complete that continent.

Many of you have asked me for a walk around tour of our Jeep. We released a video which I'll link here for those that want to see it. Fair warning it is a 40 minute full walk around of everything we've done to our rig for this global journey. I take you around the exterior and talk about the philosophy of our build, then my wife takes you through the interior. Hope it is helpful to anyone interested in our rig. Here is the link to that walk around: https://youtu.be/ZF41rFJBOt0

Hey Will,

Build weight is a hard thing to determine as every single change has to be calculated. For example removing the stock tires and wheels, adding the new ones and calculating the difference. In addition there are fuels and liquids that aren’t always at the same levels which can vary the weight hundreds of pounds. Plus the change in our own weight and the fact that we get rid of things and add things as we travel. Having said all of that the only way we can determine maximum weight of the build is to fully load out the rig with all fluids topped off (extra water and fuel) and fridge full and every piece of gear and equipment loaded. Then we had to add weight equivalent to Caspian’s projected weight as an adult and subtract his car seat. All that to say that there is no exact science to your question but one that we were really curious about too. After all that we needed to weigh both the steer and drive axle. We did that in October 2021 just before departing on the journey and the steer was 2980 and drive was 4500 for a total of 7480 however we don’t actually carry that weight. That was the max our rig would ever be loaded. We also have to subtract the allowance that Jeep gives for the driver.

So those are the numbers, realistically and for all practical purposes we are driving with about 2900 on the steer and probably around 4320 give or take on the drive. This is based on the average extra fuel and water we carry and our current load out. Really complicated answer to a great question. ~ Eric

P.S. Today we probably got rid of another 30lbs worth of gear, so we're probably around 4290 on the steer at this point minus the projected weight of Caspian so take off another 130lbs. More likely rolling with around 4160 steer.

Hey Todd and Natalie,

So we do our best to share photos and some video on our Instagram @HourlessLife we also have quite a few videos on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/HourlessLife

Internet is sketch down here and also Expedition Portal puts limits on file sizes. So rather than going through and re-sizing and trying to upload we just point people to the platforms that are more designed for that. I love writing here and talking to other overlanders, and happy to carry on a convo. But uploading photos here is normally a challenge from where we are. ~ Eric
