I just stumbled on a 1946 M416, and have no money!

I was invited to go with a friend, to a friend of his, to help him mount a Tuffy overhead console in his Rubicon Unlimited for his CB. So later on, in the conversation, Bill (My buddy’s friend) says something about having an old Jeep trailer out in the barn that he’s had for 8 years, and of course my ears perked up. I asked him did he mean a jeep military trailer. And he said yes. So I asked if we could take a look at it, and he of course said sure, so we did.
The trailer looked to be in good shape. He had worked on it when he first got it, and painted it to match his old Bronco, but then it just sat in the barn. And by the way, he said something about maybe he should sell it. Just my luck, I don’t have any money right now, Life can just be cruel.

The first M416 trailers weren't built until the early 1960s. How did you ID this trailer as an M416? Did you see the data plate? It might be a 1946 or it might be an M416, but it can't be both. He apparently doesn't really know what he has.

Well I'll tell ya, It's probably not him, it's me. He told me it was a 1946 military trailer, I'm the one who asumed it was an M416. He said he has all the indentification papers and the data plate for it, and so I'm sure he knows. I just thought they were all the same.

Yes, it has round fenders. I kinda like the flat fenders myself, but then I'm still thinking I'm gonna build my own from scratch, so it realy dosn't matter. Besides, I really want a fleetside trailer, to take advantage of the extra cargo space.

if it is a 1946 then it is most likely a post WWll civilian Bantam trailer. did it have a tailgate? any stake pockets inside the upper corners and middle of the bed? how many tie downs per side? was there a data plate on the front?
