Cooper tire dilemma!

I'm buying new tires for my 95 Discovery.

I have narrowed my choices down to two: the Cooper ST in 265/75R16, or the STT in 235/85R16. The ST is $131ea with free shipping, the STT is $164ea with free shipping. These prices are from OnlineTires.com.

Anybody out there comment on the comparison between these two tires? I have read the Cooper ST thread and have learned some insight there. I have not found as much on the STT. Opinions?

The truck gets a lot of mixed use. Four wheeling here is usually mud, streams, wet rocks, roots, etc. I also do drive a lot on the highway and around town, but have never complained too much about tire noise. I am used to BFG MT and Goodyear MTR type noise.

I have the STT's on my jeep in 33x12.50x15. They are great off road mud tires but if you're planning on doing more on road than off road with them you may want to consider the ST's instead. It's almost time for a new set for me and I think i'm gonna go with an A/T tire this time just due to tread wear. If I had an extra set of wheels for the trails I'd keep nothing but STT's on them.

How many miles did you get out of your current set?

I have the 265/75/16 ST on my Montero. They have done great for the snow and off road driving I have needed to do. They are very aggressive. I think they would surprise you. They are a bit noisier then the BFG All Terrains I've had before but not as noisy as the Firestone Destination MT that are on my Dodge.

I just replaced my old set of ST's with a new set of ST's. If you're putting a lot of road miles on in between trips, I'd recommend the ST's. Yes they are louder than the BFG All Terrain, but the mud traction is a far sight better. I got an honest to goodness 50,000 miles out of my ST's and had some tread life left yet...enough that I kept one for a spare.

You really can't go wrong with either the STT or the ST, but if you put road miles on (I put over 20,000 a year on) the ST would fare better.

i have the 235/85 stt's on my 08 tacoma 4 door. i really like them. they do have a little road noise but if your used to bfg's or mtr's then these should not be a problem. i just rotated them at 8k recently and would guess to get close to 30k out of them. i do alot of road driving and they have done excellant in teh snow. i have run bfg all-terrains in teh past and if i were to run an at in the future i would run the st. hard to go wrong.

I had the Cooper STT's in 235/85R16 on my D-90 - great traction - reasonably quiet when new - they just wore out too quickly - around 24,000 miles. I've been spoiled by BFG in tire life I guess.

I replaced the Coopers a few weeks ago with a set of BFG Mud T/A KM-2's in 235/85/R16 and the BFG's are quieter. They cost around $172 a tire. I'll try them out at Uhwarrie in a couple of weeks.

Cool, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the STs. I do drive a lot on the street and the cheaper price plus apparent longer life are attractive.

Ask yourself how much noise you like to listen to on road trips. Obviously the STTs will be louder.

I've had no issues with my STTs. Great traction on snow and ice. I haven't had any experience in the mud or rocks, yet. I don't notice the noise since it's not a DD and it's a 4X4. The STTs are heavy buggers though(10 ply). My mileage suffered heavily.
