Built some Storage

i built myself some storage about a year ago out of 12 gauge sheet metal. it worked okay, but it was heavy (100+ lbs) and to get inside to get something out you had to take everything out to get inside the compartment.

here is what i came up with. it works great and only weighs around 10-20 lbs.

i used 7/16" OSB ($10) and 1x2 pine (free, thanks father in law)

I like your idea. The best part is that you can still sleep in your jeep. I believe you can get carpeting at Home Depot and Lowes. This was my idea.

thanks.

i'll check out lowes and home depot next time i'm in montana. we don't have them kind of stores here in woyomin :costumed-smiley-007

i might add some sort of rack above the storage that i can take out at night when we sleep in the back. i'm going to add an inverter and a small 120 V electrical outlet next to my 12V outlet as well. i found a few inverters in walmart but i have not bought one yet.

i'm also going to have to add some sort of latch to keep the lids on. i noticed after i went a little air born the lids came off.:smiley_drive::victory:

i was thinking about using my kids old battery out of their now dead powerwheels car in the back. i think its sealed, but i'm not sure. it is a 12 volt battery, i could keep it charged off the 12V outlet in the back. I'm not sure if i need another battery yet or not. the stock alternator is 160 amp and i have a yellow-top ultima battery. i only run a GPS, cell charger, and CB radio. I will probably hook my laptop in as well and run the GPS to it occasionally.

Can I do something similar with my WK?

I'd like to remove the back seat too. Save space and cut down the weight.

How did you get it that deep? What pieces did you have to take out of the back? To fit that box.

He took out the 3rd row seat of the Commander. I did something very similar with 1/2" plywood when I had mine.

thanks.

You don't necessarily have to take it out for sleeping in the Commander; just make it high enough that you can stick your feet underneath it. In smaller yachts, it is very common that you stick your feet in some cubby holes for sleeping. I have a rack in the rear of my JK and this works well if somebody sleeps back there (more the boys than me because the JK is just about 5'6" from the folded rear seats to the tailgate).

i think i'll add this to keep things in the back in the back.

and get some carpet. that will finish off the storage pretty well. i want to add an amp and sub, but i don't have the room!:coffeedrink:

I like the net idea a lot, but they don't list one for a FJ60/62. The price seems high at first too, but I'd rather be out $150 or so dollars than have a pile of gear land on me or the dog.

Does anyone have a vendor for this kind of net for a FJ62?

search on ebay. maybe a net from a JK would fit yours as well. i think i'll probably pick one up next month. looks like it would come down easy for sleepy time.:tent:
