What's on your short list?

Here's the scene. You've been tasked to take a trip overland through a remote environment. There is a table in front of you with the poll items on it. 3 of these items are yours for the taking, to either install on your vehicle or put amongst your basic kit.

These are the items you already have:

-dry food( canned,MRE or dyhydrated style)
-stove&fuel
-water
-clothes
-first aid kit
-sleeping bag for each occupant

Choose (3) items from the poll to add to this list.

Vehicle is a stock 4x4, open diffs, no lift. Destination is overland, and rough, but not the rubicon.

(poll en route)

have fun!

Well, as I usually carry all of that, I think my three choices would be

1. Food
2. Cloths
3. First Aid

I think these would be the best to ADD to what I have.

well, for what I carry with me now, I would add an awning, extra fuel and a SPOT. I already carry ALOT with me, probably more than I need but in my mind, it is better to be prepared and now need it, than to not have it and reallyyy need it.

this isn't your vehicle, its a vehicle you're given, with the kit listed.

this list is different than the pole. Do we already have the list above?

The list that includes food and water is whats in the vehicle when you are handed the keys. Just basic kit.

The poll items are 3 choices above and beyond....

sorry for lack of clarity!! :sombrero:

I come in Peace
I picked the fridge because I have never had that luxury, and would like to see how the other half lives.
I debated picking the SPOT but I would likely have my own GPS hand held with me and Hand Held HAM radio with me for finding my way back or calling for help. Now I do know that neither would replace the most important function of the SPOT, but I like to live dangerously. :sombrero:

Fun poll..

SPOT in case poop hits the fan.
1(fuel) can in case i need to fuel the rig longer.
Tent to sleep in at night. Sleeping is very important.

No fridge because i have MRE's and i can drink warm water.
I dont need a shower because i can live dirty.
No awning because i can find a tree for shade.
I dont need a CB because i have spot and CB's don't get out.
I won't need sand ladders because i'll use SPOT if i get stuck.
Chairs i'll pass on, i can just sit on the ground or on a tailgate.
Firearm... nah.. i'll just mind my own business and place nice.

Wow i just realized i don't need 90% of the stuff i have :D

Chairs. We all need a comfortable place to relax.
Tent. A place to sleep where the "no-see-ums" don't harass me and the rest of the troupe.
Privy. Not my priority per se , but high on the list when the female gets her choice, thereby making it my priority.

You'll see my vote under my screen-name, but those are actually Mrs. BigDaddy's choices after a very interesting discussion.

yup, my wife is definitely a keeper due to, among many other things, her seemingly un-ending tolerance of my dorkiness. :D

Dang, I'm a glamper.
I carry most all of that for a weekend in the woods....

You didn't tell us the guest list. That's a trap; can't answer the poll without it.
How many people in the rig? Ages & health?
My wife won't go for more than a couple of days without a shower and privy. Fridge is nice but you need a means of charging your battery if you intend to be stationary for any time. In some places a firearm can be very handy; in other situations it can be an impediment.
I've always considered a cb to be essential and have always had one for the past 35 years or so; CW McCall would be proud of me...

My advice is to call AT and get a trailer.

Personally I don't think I have enough info on the trip, rig, # of people going, etc. A difference in any one of many variables regarding this trip will change my answers. Examples:

1. local desert trip, 2 nights max, no other people, I might bring the awning, chairs and toilet.

2. long distance travel but towns to stop at, 3 people, small rig, I might bring fridge, Spot and tent.

3. Extreme remote area, 2 people, roaming wild animals, I might bring gas, Spot and firearm.

I can't really vote until I know who, what, where, etc. :D Okay so that's my over planning kicking in but I like to be prepared.
