Better seats, especially for tall guys?

My driver's seat in my '99 Tacoma has done its job for 150,000 miles, but now it's not as supportive as it should be. Has anyone changed the seats or found an aftermarket one they like?

I would especially like to find something that is a better fit for my 6' 3" frame, I often catch myself hunched over because there isn't much lumbar support and the top of the seat hits about 5" below my shoulders.

Modifying the hardware between the seat and the floor isn't a problem. I really only need one seat because the passenger's is in pretty good shape. The existing seat is the split bench.

That is one thing I don't like about my Tacoma, seems like a low windshield even for me at 6' 0''. I guess I like to see more sky... without going to fixed racing seats, maybe find some low profile seat tracks? I've seen them out there but i don't know about the applications.

I can't find it now but somewhere on the net I read a post about installing Hunsaker seats in a Tacoma... I checked their site and the ICON seats look nice, not too flashy, $400 a pair plus brackets.

I looked at the Master Craft Baja RS seats a short while back. Wonderful, amazing, great looking seats. I just can't talk myself into $800 per each :Wow1:. I know that I would use them every single time I got in the truck but man oh man thats a bunch of money. Now....the Hunsakers. They sure look good on the web page, Is there anyone in the 805 area that could bring thier butt with them and give us a 'test sit'?

Found this thread over on Pirate4x4

The Icons are a pretty decent looking seat but there doesn't seem to be any contour in the lumbar area, and I think that headrest would land between my shoulder blades. $400/pr delivered is a great price but all that leftover cash in my wallet would make my butt fall asleep anyway.:elkgrin:

Rex it looks like the Mastercraft Baja RS can be had for a little over $500 each, not that that helps a lot ..

I think maybe this weekend I'll take a field trip to the junkyards, and then I can test them all out. BMW and Volvo make some nice seats.

I think my price recollection may have been fully optioned out, adjustable Lumbar support, heated insert ,mounting track and stuff. I think that Hunsaker is in Ventura, my brother works in Ventura so he could give them a test sit........

I am also looking for a more comfortable seat I am also tall and just cant get comfortable on long drives, I did try a set of Corboau jeep seats but they sat up so high I was hitting my head. I returned them and still have the crappy bench.
Let me know what you find.

Subaru XT seats fit pretty low to the mounts, I have a set that are going into the FJ60. Some of the sporty VW etc. models use seats made by Recaro.
IME most of the off road specific seats are a bit tall between the sliders and the seat cushion.

I would be cautious about seats with a high side bolster. They are a great seat to sit in until you need to climb in and out of them a dozen times a day.

Where is Hunsaker? I've heard that they are located here, but I've never looked them up.

My absolute favoritest seats ever (in no particular order):
* Audi 4000 quattro (Recaro-designed)
* Porsche 911/944
* Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ)
* BMW 535iS (e28) (also Recaro designed)

All three can be had for $25/ea at Pick N Pull and installed at whatever height you want in a truck.

Recaro makes some of the best, a bit expensive, but good stuff is rarely cheap. Used seats can be had for a bargain though... check the usuals... ebay and craigs list.

I've wanted to get some of those. I saw them in a Jetta GLI and some GTI's. I'm sure they're pretty spendy, though.

Also, I've sat in some E36 M3 seats and they were super comfortable. But again, would probably be expensive. I'd also be afraid of the Euro reliability (or lack thereof) seeping into my Toyota. :D

My 02 4Runner Sport Edition seats were pretty comfortable. So were 4th Gen 4Runner seats I've sat in. That plus a custom lower bracket might be the answer for some of you tall guys.
