In the hay days of CB's in the 1970's....an actual big rig installation station. See I~20 on your left.

It's been there along the I~20 in Texas since I was driving big rigs in the late 1970's. I took this pic last year and went inside. The back room is an online sweat shop of CB selling. They could barely help me out front.

I would buy from Sparkys. No extra charge for a tweek.

I think Dave ( AdventureDuo ) here on the board was selling new CB's recently, you might want to check with him and pick up a Trasharoo while you are at it.

If you want a "tweaked" unit then check out the
"I want to commit a federal crime radio shops" located near most truck stops.

I laugh at people tweaking CBs. It is still AM. If you want a radio with power get a HAM radio. As far as it being a federal crime that is true, however who is out there to enforce it? Do a search on 10 and 11m radios. You'll find the outlaws.

Hmm, Donald might beg to differ with you.

James though he was above the law also

Joe go dinged also, this was an external amp but a "tweaked" radio or amp would be the same issue.

here is a CB shop selling "tweaked" radio that was busted. want to bet the people he sold to is in the hands of the FCC

While they are not on every corner handing tickets people are getting fined.
as for AM being the issue with CB, thats not the issue, While AM takes more power its a viable communication means. I use AM all the time with my ham gear. Check out 160M some night, lots of AM signals.

The problem with tweaked CB is usually the person behind the mic, someone who thinks 100% modulation and echo makes his signal go further.

I hang out with Dave pretty frequently and I haven't heard him mention anything about selling CB's. He does like going to a place called Solder Joint for his communication gear...local place in Orange County here.

Yes....you need to pick up a Trasharoo!!! :victory:

I would like to get a tweaked radio. I hear that they can be tuned to put out up to 18 watts.

I am pretty sure CB's are only allowed to have 5 watts by law.

I guess I was wrong on the 5 watts:

CB Radio operators normally transmit double sideband AM on the first 23 channels. On channels above Channel 23, upper sideband or lower sideband equipment may be used. Four watts of carrier power is allowed for output on AM, and 12 watts of peak envelope power is the maximum power output on SSB. You may only use a type-accepted CB Radio transmitter. Any internal modification to a type-accepted CB Radio transmitter cancels the type acceptance, and use of such a transmitter voids your authority to operate the station. The same type regulation applies to power amplifiers. Power amplifiers are specifically disallowed for use with a CB Radio.

I've purchased from Walcott CB and had good results

x2 - Walcott has made a lifetime loyal customer out of me. I recommend them to anyone who asks my opinion. I have bought all of my CB related stuff for them for about 4 years, now, and will continue to buy CB stuff exclusively from them.

They have the best prices, the best selection, and the best customer service I've seen or heard of. Most places that sell CBs and related products know NOTHING about CBs. Walcott knows their stuff!
