Jeepster Trailer

Have been lurking around her for quite awhile and trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I'm new to Expedition trailers but not to jeeps (own several). After making a little progress I decided to make an attempt to post what has been accomplished so far. I would appreciate any constructive criticism or otherwise, I have pretty thick skin.

Several months ago I started building an expedition trailer, mostly inspired by the excellent build threads on here. This is not near the quality as some of the other trailers built here but, what the hey. The best part, IMO is it is built out of a Jeepster.

Started with a '69 Jeepster Halfcab, cut it in half, used a 5000 lb. trailer axle I got from Six States. Ended up having to rebuild the flooring in the front part. Bought a used pop up trailer and am currently dismantleing it to use the stove, fridge, water heater and electrical. Will make a hauling trailer out of the rest.

The Jeepster I started with I stripped the best parts off and used them on another one I have. It was sitting on jack stands when the City asked me to remove it, this pushed me into starting the project.

The plan is to build slide out shelves on the side and out the rear. the kitchen will come out the side, not real sure yet what will end up on the rear slide. There will be a roof top tent mounted, still not sure which one yet, so many choices. At one time I was considering mounting the Jeepster grill on the front and cutting the hood down for a lid. This was to be used to house extra batteries. Now the current plan is to build a simple box on the tongue.

One thing I have noticed that needs to be changed is the hitch, Had no idea of a multi-axis hitch until after the current one was already mounted (should have found this site just a little earlier).

After I get all the parts removed from the pop up I will post some pictures and ask for any suggestions on the lay out.

My hope is to have this completed by the end of February.

Welcome ! :victory:
I like the slide outs I have been following other threads on a slide out kitchens and will be interested to see what you come up with knowing the kind of work that was put in to your Jeepster. I would like to add a slide out kitchen on my trailer.

Looks like you have some bad ***** Jeepsters, any links to threads on them? A matching trailer ought to compliment them very well. I can't wait to see it finished and hitched up.

Here is a link to the build thread for the '71 (Orange). As you will discover, at the time it was being built I was as big of a nooby as one could get.

The Hurst Halfcab (Blue) one is still a work in progress. It has a Ford 302 which I'm currently installing TBI and MSD ignition. Still lots of other stuff to be completed but hoping to have it finished by end of next month. I'm trying to do all the work myslf, after discovering all the stupid mistakes made on the orange jeep, figured I could do at least as well as they did.

I like this idea!

Man...i agree with that!!

The natural lines of the Jeepster back end really lend themselves to a cool looking tub. The fact the lights all match is just iceing on the cake.

Can't wait to see the final product, good luck!

Nice! I've seen a few of those. Unfortunately, it is hard to find a good canidate in my area (wrecked vs rusted). So I ended up w/a M416! (pic is on this forum somewhere....)

4wd Hardware made a prototype "Jeep tub trailer" out of fiberglass several years ago....but it must have been dropped. Never saw it hit the market!

Anyhow, I've always liked the Jeep Commando look w/the 1/2 cab or w/o the top!

Yeah I was in with the owner when they were starting that. They looked at mine during the design process. They never finished the project as they didn't think they'd sell. The proto type was still around the warehouse for quite a while. IDK if it's still there or not.

That's too bad, I think there could have been a market for it if priced right.

I get that all the time " What year is your Scrambler" or "Are you sure that's not a Scrambler".

Funny you should say that.....I've had people ask me if my Scrambler "is one of those newer longer Wrangler thingies" ("an Unlimited" I ask?)!

Progress is very slow on this thing, probably should have done a lot more pre-planning on the thing, any pre-planning would have helped.

The rooftop tent (RTT) arrived last week, decided to go with a soft tent instead of the fiberglass one, my wife was insistant on having a changing room. Its not mounted yet, need to finish painting the trailer first.

The fridge I was going to use out of the pop up trailer did not work so I went with an Engle fridge. I choose this one over the ARB fridge is because Camping Lab sold this brand and thats where I got the tent from. Ended up with the MT45F.

The water tank I used was from Plastic Mart. This fits perfectly for where I thought I wanted to put it. Now I'm wishing I would have mounted it underneath with a skid plate.

The sliders for the slide out kitchen and the rear table/cabinet are built at a 500 lb. rating, probably overkill though.
Bought two of these then found a 60" long one, probably mount the extra one in the back of the halfcab.

Plan on finishing up the formica today then need to get the water lines and wiring all figured out. Once the cabinet is mounted in the back it will be difficult to access some of that stuff.

Here are a few more pics. I still need to attach the slide mounts to support the shelf at the end of the kitchen, my hope is to keep from adding any legs to the kitchen.

I'll post some more pics of the seperate shower/toilet tent, once I get it put up.

Still lots to do but sure am having a good time building this.

I appreciate any suggestions from any of you that see I should be doing something differently
