Opinions on this rig?

great rig for a rock crawler / buggy build, but I would avoid it for an expo rig unless you can get it for 800 or less. I had an 87 and it was a good running truck, but everywhere you see rust is only the surface, those things had places to hide water/rust you did not even know existed. And the worst of it was each hole went all the way inside, so air tight and warm is lost with each hole.

Well, I'm headin' out to go pick it up. I haggled with him quite a bit and I know I'm probably overpaying by a few hundred, but we agreed upon $1500. Normally I would haggle some more, but I don't have the luxury of time on this deal.

Wish me luck.

Joel

If your gut is happy with the deal then the heck with it:) Plus you can buy anything you need for it off Ebay:victory: Good luck!!

:smiley_drive: Say hello to the newest 1st Gen 4Runner owner 'round these parts.

Rock solid little rig made it back in the winter storm that is hitting mid-Tennessee right now. Of course, I noticed a few mechanical gremlins that I hadn't noticed before, but nothing that was a deal breaker. A little whirring sound while on the gas at highway speeds (throw-out bearing?) and the brake booster makes the idle bounce at a stop.

She sure is ugly. I think I'll nickname her "Ugly Betty." :sombrero:

Let the mania begin...

I think the idle change when the brakes are applied means that the idle is set too high. Congrats on the new ride! :)

Thanks for the congrats!

Yeah, the idle is set too high. I think I need to go get myself a Haynes or Bentley manual now.

Any tips on how to properly set it?

The proper idle RPM is 750 IIRC, but you'll need to borrow a tach from someone to know for sure. If the idle bounces instead of drops dramatically, I would say that your idle isnt too far off.

Thank you, Sir.

I have zero experience with the 22RE, so I'm assuming there is a simple idle adjustment screw that will allow me to fix this.
