Decent 110's

I have been a toyota guy from day one but am looking into converting. I have pretty much made my mind on a diesel 110 or series 3. I have done a lot of research and found a few sources but I have a few questions. I found Liveridge 4x4 over in the UK and it seems to be a cool concept (maybe too good to be true) and on their site they have a lot of good feedback. When I searched, GlobalMonkey is the only one that has had a bad experience that I can find. I have searched on a lot of other Rover sites and haven't found anything else on them. His experience alone has scared me away from them however. Does anyone know of a place in the UK that is similar that sells quality Rovers? My budget will be 20k or less and I would like something that is either restored or doesn't have much corrosion. Landrover Ranch seems to have some selection but not much on diesels. Rovers out east has some selection but seem to be somewhat beat up and have a bit of rust. Should I just take a vacation to the UK and find my own?

No direct experience but I know a few people who have found them good.

The Land Rover Center

Yes, even when buying through a reputable place it is an extremely good idea to take that vacation to inspect your prospective purchase. Caveat Emptor.

I highly recommend http://landroverexchange.com/ or eBay. Just a suggestion to buy one already here in the states that you can check out before you purchase. Sometimes the definition of "roadworthy" is different between cultures... just saying.

If you are looking into Defenders, than you need to get on D-90.com. That's where we all hang out and talk Rover.

As for importers of legal 25 year old Defenders, Global Land Rovers is the North American subject matter experts it seems in that forum. I have a few friends that will buy from them when they are ready, and they have a constant stream of good condition 110's coming in.

Yes, I would stay away from Liveridge 4x4 and buy here in the states, unless you want to go to U.K. and pick one personally. If you want to learn more about my experience, just send me a P.M.

There are lots of local landrover specialists, (I can count 6 in a 20 mile radius)
most of them are happy to build you a car to your required spec, galv frame and new/restored bulkhead as a start.
only last week I was speaking to a member of our club who is building an early 90 for someone,

I visited Liveridge4x4 with a LR mechanic friend when I was rebuilding my 109; I wanted to see how they did their "Countryman" conversion - trim, windows, seating, seat belts, strengthening of the mounting points and so on. My friend had to go and hide - he was on the brink of cracking up at my face on hearing the Liveridge salesman's spiel and seeing he vehicles up close (I have the world's worst poker face).

Suffice to say neither of us would touch their vehicles.

Ebay: lots of "iffy" 110s.....just do your homework first.

goto D-90.com ...... they spot the iffy ones real quick.

Good luck.
