Trailer Harness

Is there a factory wire harness for trailer lights tucked somewhere in the back of these trucks (02 Disco SE) or will I have to splice into the brake lights etc?

There is a connector back there, on the right hand side, behind this little vent looking panel close to the door jamb. There is a factory brake light harness available that plugs right in. If using an aftermarket system, you will need to splice into that harness, but at least you won't be needing to splice the actual tail light wires. I went with an aftermarket system, because I wanted the circuits to be isolated (self-powered). There is also a 12V lead available in that harness which makes wiring in an isolated converter easy.

On a Discovery II, the connector is located behind the right brake/tail light.

David...that may only be on the 03/04 models. I thought it was behind the screen thingie in my old 2001.

But I could be completely wrong. It's rare but known to happen:ylsmoke:

I have an 04, and it's behind the screen/vent thingy... which is on the inside of the vehicle, behind the right tail light.

Then someone fished it up there...the owners man says says the plugs are all in the same location.

Mine is in the same spot and is def there from the factory, I bought my truck from the original owner, and he never towed anything with it. It is actually clipped into the sheet metal on the inside of the taillight and has a little dust cover as well...factory indeed :smiley_drive:

Maybe the difference is whether or not you had the harness from the factory? Mine had the harness installed when I got it. Maybe part of the installation proceedure is to unclip the connector, and let it drop down into the lower part of the cavity. It's all the same area.

I bet thats it. Just out of curiosity I stopped by the dealer yesterday to see how much they wanted for the harness...$256!!!! I'll be going with the one from Atlantic British.

Yep...same place mine was clipped. As a point of reference, the RAVE manual also directs you to that location for the DII.
