First of all, my vehicle is a 2005 Wrangler Unlimited with a factory Mopar hitch & 7-round plug. My trailer is a '93 M101A3 with the original military lights that I already swapped 12V bulbs into. I checked the service manual for the M101A3, and determined which wires routed to which function.
I got a Phoenix USA junction box from Adventure Trailers, already set up with a 7-round pigtail. All terminals are marked with color & function, and the color-coding lines up directly with the bottom image below ("SAE coding convention for 7-pole connectors", which I found in this "Wiring 101" thread). However, it took a while testing things, as nothing seemed to be working right when first hooked up. What I eventually found is that the color-coding on the pigtail coming off the vehicle matches up to the "7 pole" (top) image below, not what's indicated in the junction box.
So, it seems as though I have it figured out functionally, but I want to understand why the wiring colors differ from what's indicated in the Phoenix USA junction box. Can someone please explain this to me - clearly, a non-electrician :sombrero: ?
Thanks,
Craig
