Hey guys, I have an 01 cherokee sport, 4.5" rough country lift full leaf pack. Its been installed for a few months. Is there anything I can do to make the rear end not so stiff? I know its a jeep an they dont ride pretty. But the rear end is really stiff. Every little bump.
Thanks

rough country

What shocks are you running and what air pressure are the tires.

The short arm front ends @ 4.5" tend to feel pretty rough on the road as well. It might be worth it to invest in some CA drop brackets to flatten them out some.

rough ride

I have the rough country 8000 shocks that came with the lift. Running about 33 psi in 32" bfg's AT

Alrighty.

I'd probably start by loosing a few lbs of air in all of the tires. How are they wearing currently? I'd bet they are showing more wear on the center than the outer edges. I'd likely drop to 28, check the contact patch, then maybe down to about 26.

After that.. Find some good shocks. Bilstiens, OME, RE Mono Tubes, etc.

If that's not enough, I'd probably pull a leaf out of the packs.

After that, order up some drop brackets for the front control arms, or a LA upgrade kit if you're feeling bling.

Rough ride

I have been doing a little research on line. Do the drop CA brackets really make that much difference on ride quality?

I did not notice a big difference, I was pushing 5" of lift so I thought it would change the ride. To me it just added a butch of more stuff to worry about coming loose under the jeep.

I agree. 100%. Plus if it has yet to be off road take it out and flex up the suspension real good to start breaking in the leaf springs. You would be suprised the diffrence it can make.

I'm running that same tire and I run them @ 25 psi all year long.
Had them for about 3yr's now and never rotated them and still have about 70% tread left.:victory:

I'd go this route as it is the most fun! lol

But another thing to try would be adding some weight in the rear cargo area to help soften up the springs a bit.

you could always go long arms and bilsteins. after i built a bastard pack and installed some bilsteins my jeep rode like a cadillac. given that the cadillac had some gnarly body roll, but it still rode nice.

Same scenario on my previous XJ - same brand lift...

LONG ARMS on the front make a huge difference, and are a definite suggestion even if you dont ever plan to go higher then 4 1/2 lift...

Drop brackets are a great option for their budget, but in the long run LONG ARMS do pay for themselves considering the quality of the ride...

As far as rear springs... its just a matter of time for them to "break in" as it has been previously mentioned...

More they are put to work - softer they will get...

Upgraded shocks are definitely a plus...

start a yard renovation that includes about 25 trips to home depot carrying tons of materials including 5 trips carrying 1500lbs of mortar and cement in the back... oughta soften her up pretty good. :coffeedrink:
