I agree. It sits a bit too high since you have it mounted to the stock rails. Several folks have made custom mounts that use the stock mounting locations. Just seal the bolts with silicon before you reinstall them. The rack does look nice though. Very functional and should hold a lot of stuff.
What do you plan on putting up there? Lights?
Do you plan on fitting a RRT?
Etc.

well 07Elephant,

i'm going to put 4 lights in the front of the rack, a homemade awning on the right side and the 6th tire on the top.

On big trips, maybe the gas cans...

But first of all, i'll have to remount the rack!
I'll keep in touch.

I looks like it sits just as high as the rack I have on my VW that came from the factory like that in 1974. The only thing is the Bus does not see any off road use, so it is not on any off camber angles where a high center of gravity would be bad. Looks good but it could be a little lower.

I had a rack like that on my 4runner too and same thing it was way to high. I sold it and now use a Pod if I ever need to put stuff on the roof (not very often). With the pod on the roof loaded I also do not lose any MPG's. The rack loaded I would lose 1-2mpg.

I would try and remake the mounting system on that rack to get it down a bit try and keep it about an inch off the roof tho so you have some clearance.

Lower roofrack

Well hello again everyone,

after a litle research on the local drugstore, i found this litle "metal pieces" with a litle rubber, and i fixed the roofrack with it... it's a litle lower now, right above the roof bars.

What do you think now?

That looks much better. Nice 4runner. How is the strength of the mountings? It looks strong. Does it wiggle or anything like that? If not I say you're done with the fitting and it's time to put some lights on it. :smiley_drive:

Those look good. I run spot reflectors on the roof rack though. Those look like driving lights. Reason I run spot reflectors is that the focused beam shines out over my wind screen and hood. The driving reflectors tend to shine too much light into the wind screen and hood area. You want to get the light out in front of the vehicle as far as possible. I do run driving reflectors on my front arb bumper though. Good luck.
