Heat exhanger choice for onboard hot showers

Heres a terrible schematic of what i'm thinking, any forseen issues from those of you who have done it?

Thanks for all the help on this. I think the heat exchanger might the the best way to go after talking it out with the pros (you guys)

Jeremy

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm not sure why you are thinking of a ball valve after the pump though.

That diagram is the backbone of my system, to include the alternate source which I'll likely tie into my future onboard tank. I'm also going to have split off that will go through a water purifier filter system (like Graham J's) for clean drinking water tap from tank or can source.

Jeremy, i never did a write up on it.. but i just followed the simple install on Kurts site. I haven't hooked up my mixer that i bought from AT yet.. right now it just runs cold water. Thanks for the kind words on the Roo's.

The splitter after the pump was to use only cold water for kitchen duties, but I guess that is what the mixer valve does for you... I'm over complicating it a bit.

Good research on the fittings and the anti-scald. I did a quick research and found the anti-scald at about 3-400:Wow1: What filter are you using and is it only to manage the taste, i'm assuming at that size of filter it must not be purifying. Analogy: Brita as opposed to a Katadyn backpacking purifier.

I don't have a way to run through my pump from a creek river,... becuase i don't want to contaminate my potable water pump.

This is by far one of the better threads I've been a part of. Thanks again, I'm getting really hyped to install mine.

My filter/purifier is going to be downstream of my prefilter and pump, on the cold water side (so past your ball pump). think of another Y split after the hot-cold split. one side of the cold water will go through purifier to a clean water tap, and the other to a grey water tap and terminate at the mixer for showers/cleanup. since all taps will have an open/close, the pressurized pump will have no problem supporting them all.

Do you have a source for the filter/purifier?

Graham J did a whole write up on onboard water systems, and I was going to use the guides and recommendations he made on bacterial and viral filtration. I'll have to check my OJ's to find the brand he recommended. Graham, you on here?

update: I couldn't find the OJ with the filter shootoff, but I found the issue with Graham's onboard design (Winter 08). He uses the Doulton IP100SC.

I'm working on building up a similar onboard water system. Graham's article in OJ was definitely an inspiration to get my project going. It will be interesting to see how similar/different they are in the end. Each application will probably have most of the same basics, with some personalized customization.
