Canon G12 and S95 coming this Fall

Most consumer camera companies update their product lines in time for holiday sales. This means that the Photokina trade show in Germany next month is the place where many new models are announced.

It looks like Canon is updating the G11 and S90 models this Fall. The new G12 and S95 keep the same camera body, sensor, lens and control layout as their predecessors. They add the ability to capture 720p video, they offer a new high dynamic range (HDR) mode, and they have improved image stabilization.

When the new cameras are announced, dealers will lower the price of the current models to clear their inventory. If you're not in need of the new features, this Fall will be a good time to shop for the G11 and S90.

Just noticed the body of the new G12 is a little differant from the G11. There is an adjustment wheel on the front, for use with the "trigger" finger. Looks like it is a multi use wheel.

Does the G11 have video, but not HD video capabilities?

I was wanting to get one, but was holding out for something with HD to toe around in the pocket

If anyone buys a G12 and doesn't like it, fear not, they'll have a G13 in no time at all! -they tend to update these things with incredible regularity now. I don't recall the G10 being out for a full 12 months before the G11 came along.

Most years at this time they bring out the new models.

I really doubt there will be a G13, with 13 being an unlucky number and all. They skipped the 4 and the 8 for similar reasons.

Manual focus control would be nice. The S90 has it, why can't the G series.
