Found this online:

Slide Thickness: 1.04" (Glock 26 measures: 1.003" for comparison.)
Frame Thickness: 1.18"
(Both are at the widest points.)

Haven't measured it myself, though.

Cool thanks. I am going to be picking up a CCW pistol sooner than later and the XD is on my list, but its the one I can't find locally to actually handle yet...

The 9mm is definitely smaller in overall grip size than the 40 and 45. Careful you don't judge a 9mm based on those, cuz they feel WAY different.

If you can find these two pistols:

-Smith and wesson M&P 9mm
-Ruger SR9/SR9c 9mm

I think you'd find that they're very close in size and feel to the XD. They're both solid choices, too.

Good luck in your search, bro.

I thought about getting this one about 4 years ago, but I can't rack the slide on it very well with my small hands. Did they make it any easier to rack for a person with small hands?

my wife wears a small to medium glove and seems to have no issues.

She could be described as being of "average" strength for a girl. How you hold it when you rack it has a lot to do with it, too.

If you push the back of the gun and the slide together, in front of your body, using your forearms, biceps, and chest muscles, it tends to be easier.

If you point the gun away from you and pull from the back kinda like a slingshot, it's rather difficult, (even for me sometimes--275lbs, 6'-0" tall, bench 225-250 easily, etc) since you're using only hand and arm muscles.

If you're an average girl, I honestly think technique has more to do with it than strength. I don't buy the whole "get her a revolver" line from gun shops, unless that's what you SHOOT the best, or if a lady has an issue like a chronic injury or loss of dexterity due to arthritis, etc....which makes a revolver or lighter caliber a necessity. I think poor training is the culprit in most cases.

Definitely try the technique I mentioned, and see how you do. Also be sure that you're gripping high, and depressing the grip safety. Not depressing it will keep the slide locked, and make it feel like it won't rack.

If all else fails definitely consider checking out the SR9/M&P I mentioned above. Both are great choices for a polymer 9mm and might prove to be a better fit for you. (EDIT: I just remembered that the M&P was just approved by a major law enforcement agency as a duty weapon for both male and female agents. Lots of good reports from the ladies there, as far as ergonomics go, so yeah, def. check that one out, fo sho)
Cheers!

I do it like she does, and it's still hard for me. I have one of the Ruger semi-autos in 9m, but it's not an SR9. It racks much, MUCH easier for me. That came out right after I got mine.

I need to train more with it. Up to 15 yards, I'm a deadly shot with a revolver (I can call out any shot to any number on the target at any place on it).

Dood, not a lot of people are good at it around here. I have seen many people trying to learn to shoot a revolver. I didn't have to train for it to shoot my coworkers pistol after years of not shooting one. I grew up on revolvers, but not semi-autos.

My point is: At 15yds, any shot from a revolver will probably be deadly. ;)
